Dexcom faces lawsuit alleging device failures endangered children.

Dexcom faces lawsuit alleging device failures endangered children. New lawsuits have been filed alleging Dexcom G7 glucose monitors malfunctioned, causing life-threatening emergencies in children, bringing total litigation to 11 cases. Claire Wallace, Senior Writer, Informa Markets - Engineering October 2, 2026 Morgan & Morgan has filed two additional lawsuits against Dexcom, Inc., alleging the company's G7 continuous glucose monitors malfunctioned and caused severe medical emergencies in children, bringing the firm's total litigation against the medical device manufacturer to 11 cases. The latest lawsuits involve a 7-year-old California girl and a 10-year-old Tennessee girl who were both hospitalized after their Dexcom G7 devices allegedly failed to accurately report blood glucose levels. The California lawsuit centers on a November 2025 incident in which a 7-year-old girl was hospitalized with profound diabetic ketoacidosis, a life-threatening complication that occurs when the body lacks sufficient insulin. According to the complaint, her Dexcom G7 malfunctioned and significantly misreported her glucose levels, preventing her family from recognizing that her blood sugar had reached dangerous levels. The Tennessee lawsuit involves a 10-year-old girl who was rushed to the hospital in August 2025 after her Dexcom G7 allegedly failed to alert her family that her blood sugar had dropped to dangerously low levels. By the time she arrived at the hospital, the lawsuit alleges her condition had deteriorated so severely that she experienced convulsive seizures requiring physical restraint by medical professionals. "Dexcom marketed this device as a safe and accurate replacement for finger sticks," said Morgan & Morgan founder John Morgan in a statement. "In doing so, they garnered the trust of parents of diabetic children who have come to depend on it to keep their children safe, but some of the devices allegedly did not work properly." Morgan & Morgan attorneys Shannon Pennock and Jack Rutherford emphasized the firm's commitment to accountability. "These lawsuits are about accountability," they said. "We want to ensure no one else is harmed by a device they depend on to survive." The firm has now filed 11 lawsuits against Dexcom involving both the G7 and earlier-generation G6 glucose monitors on behalf of plaintiffs across California, Florida, New Jersey, Tennessee, Kentucky, and Louisiana. Three cases involve minors, while four allege that Dexcom users died from medical events that plaintiffs contend could have been prevented had the devices functioned properly. The Dexcom G7 has also been subject to multiple recalls. The complaints were filed in the Superior Court of the State of California - County of San Diego, where Dexcom's global headquarters are located. The company is currently working on its next iteration, the Dexcom G8, despite a plethora of ongoing G7 concerns. Senior Writer, Informa Markets - Engineering Claire Wallace is a senior staff writer at Medical Device + Diagnostics Industry (MD+DI), where she covers key developments in the healthcare and medical device industry.
