  • A Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, school-age care, or another child-related field, or an Associate's degree in Early Childhood Education while working toward a bachelor's degree.
  • At least one year of on-the-job training providing a nurturing indoor and outdoor environment and meeting children's out-of-home needs.
  • At least one year of experience under qualified supervision working as a teacher serving children across the ages and developmental abilities in care.
  • A valid certificate in pediatric first aid, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
  • Thorough knowledge of normal child development and early childhood education, including indicators that a child is not developing typically.
  • Ability to respond appropriately to children's needs and recognize signs of illness and safety or injury hazards, with preventive interventions.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills, sound judgment, and emotional maturity.
  • Proof of completed mandated-reporter training on recognizing and reporting child abuse that meets Pennsylvania Act 153 of 2014 standards, with recurrent training every five years.
  • Pennsylvania Act 153 child-protection clearances, including Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance, Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Record Check, and Federal Bureau of Investigation Criminal Record Check.
  • Understanding of and appreciation for the mission of The Salvation Army and the RJKCCC.
Responsibilities
  • Plan, implement, instruct, and assess programming for the long-term success of the Early Childhood Education Center.
  • Use the curriculum as a foundation for lesson planning.
  • Maintain a healthy and safe environment for the children and families served.
  • Build positive and professional relationships with parents, children, and staff.
  • Maintain records and complete reports to ensure standards of excellence are maintained.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
