Requirements
  • Advanced degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Financial Engineering, or related quantitative field preferred.
  • Proven experience architecting and managing production data pipelines and analytics platforms in financial services or asset management.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead technical teams and collaborate across business and technology functions.
  • Programming in Python and experience with cloud-based data platforms and big data technologies such as AWS and Snowflake.
  • Expertise in time series analysis, financial modeling, quantitative analytics, and strong understanding of global markets (i.e., fixed income, commodities, equities, and derivatives).
  • Strong background in data query, search, monitoring, and root cause analysis.
Responsibilities
  • Oversee the creation and management of a comprehensive internal data catalog, ensuring market and analytical data assets are easily discoverable and accessible.
  • Implement best practices for data quality and accuracy to support high-impact analytics and investment decisions.
  • Partner with senior leaders across Technology, Analytics and PM to align data strategies with business objectives and firm-wide technology initiatives. Ensuring cost effective solutions.
  • Design and implement scalable data pipelines and production workflows for portfolio analytics, including reusable libraries for time series, financial modeling, risk, and performance analysis.
  • Integrate new data sources into production systems, ensuring seamless ingestion, transformation, and validation. Lead efforts to optimize data acquisition strategies, ensuring alignment with a low-cost, high-value approach that maximizes business impact.
  • Develop and enforce rigorous data quality controls, including automated validation, anomaly detection, reconciliation, and real-time monitoring for data integrity, latency, and completeness.
  • Lead root cause analysis and remediation for data quality issues, collaborating with technology and analytics teams.
  • Partner with Technology to design end-to-end production data lifecycle, from acquisition to analytics and reporting, while implementing best practices for CI/CD, version control, and testing.
  • Ensure appropriate documentation and audit trails for all production data processes.
  • Collaborate across PM groups and Analytics to provide thought leadership on leveraging AI/LLM and PIMCO data assets, to maximize business impact.

Allianz increases stake in Pimco to at least 95% for minimum $1.6B

Allianz is increasing its stake in US asset management subsidiary Pimco from 90.6% to at least 95%, investing a minimum of €1.4 billion. The Munich-based insurance giant has terminated an employee participation programme that was launched 18 years ago and expired in 2020, through which Pimco managers held a 9.4% stake in the bond fund specialist. The company announced the move on Thursday evening. Pimco specialises in bond funds and operates as a subsidiary of the German insurance group.

Pimco launches global fixed income fund with four-manager team

Pimco has launched the Pimco GIS Global Bond Opportunities Fund, a global fixed income fund within its Pimco GIS UCITS range. The vehicle focuses on the global bond market through allocation across regions, yield curves, sectors and currencies without tracking a bond market index. The fund will be managed by a four-person team: Andrew Balls, managing director and CIO of global fixed income; Sachin Gupta, managing director and portfolio manager; Lorenzo Pagani, managing director and portfolio manager; and Martin Svorc, executive vice president and portfolio manager. The fund is available in the UK, Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Italy, France, Spain, Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland, amongst other countries.

Blackstone, PIMCO finance $16B data centre in Michigan for AI computing

Related Digital has secured $16 billion in funding to build a massive data centre campus in Michigan's Saline Township, designed to support AI computing demand. The project is backed by equity from Blackstone funds and debt financing anchored by PIMCO, which reportedly purchased approximately $10 billion in project bonds. The development, expected to exceed one gigawatt of capacity, will rank amongst the largest data centre campuses in the United States. It forms part of a collaboration involving OpenAI, Oracle and Related Digital to rapidly expand computing infrastructure for next-generation AI systems. Construction commenced earlier this year. Bank of America helped structure the deal, arranging and selling around $14 billion in bonds, whilst Blackstone's equity contribution is estimated at $2 billion. The project reflects broader industry trends, with tech giants expected to invest hundreds of billions in AI infrastructure this year.

PIMCO privately lends $10B+ to Gulf states scrambling for cash amid Iran war fallout

Pacific Investment Management Co. has lent over $10 billion to Gulf state governments and state-backed entities through private placements since the Iran conflict began. The $2.27 trillion asset manager has been a major buyer of privately placed bonds from Abu Dhabi, Qatar and Kuwait, as well as Qatar National Bank. Regional borrowers raised $13.8 billion in privately placed hard currency bonds between 28 February and 23 April, with Pimco accounting for the majority. Private placements allow faster borrowing with more flexibility but typically cost issuers 0.3% more than public debt. The lending comes as Gulf states build cash buffers amid economic uncertainty from the Iran war, which disrupted energy exports through the Strait of Hormuz. The UAE recently enquired about currency swap lines with the Federal Reserve, whilst US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said multiple Gulf allies had requested such arrangements.
