About the company

Pfizer discovers, makes, and sells prescription medicines and vaccines for patients, doctors, and governments worldwide, with large businesses in vaccines, cancer, heart disease, and rare diseases. In 2020, its COVID-19 shot, developed with German partner BioNTech, became the first COVID-19 vaccine authorized in the United States. Its scientists find drug candidates and run clinical trials to prove they are safe and effective, and Pfizer then manufactures approved products in its own plants, earning most of its money from patented drugs before cheaper generic copies arrive. Pfizer was founded in 1849 as a chemicals business in Brooklyn and is based in New York City.

What believers are saying

  • Newer drugs carry the business: launched and acquired products grew 18% operationally in Pfizer's August 2026 quarterly report.
  • The outlook improved: in August 2026, Pfizer raised its 2026 revenue guidance to $60.5 billion to $62.5 billion.
  • Vaccine scientists get room to grow: Pfizer's $470 million Pearl River, New York research expansion is designed for 370 workers.

What critics are saying

  • Expect more site cuts: in November 2025, Pfizer moved to shrink Swiss staff from about 300 to roughly 70.
  • Generics will erase sales: Pfizer expects patent losses to cut $17 billion to $18 billion of yearly revenue through 2028.
  • Pfizer is chasing obesity leaders: Metsera's monthly shot showed 12.3% weight loss at 28 weeks in February 2026 data.

What makes Pfizer unique

  • Pfizer bought its way into cancer: its Seagen buyout added antibody-drug conjugates, which carry chemotherapy straight to tumors.
  • Pfizer is betting on monthly obesity shots: Metsera's berobenatide is dosed once a month, unlike weekly Wegovy and Zepbound.
  • Pfizer leans on one partnered heart drug: blood thinner Eliquis, sold with Bristol Myers Squibb, brings about 14% of revenue.

Pfizer's Elrexfio wins Phase 3 myeloma trial as FDA expands Talzenna approval; shares at $28.12

Pfizer said its Phase 3 MagnetisMM-32 trial of ELREXFIO met its primary endpoint in relapsed or refractory multiple myeloma. Separately, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) expanded approval of TALZENNA plus XTANDI for men with metastatic hormone sensitive prostate cancer with HRR gene mutations. Both results extend uses of existing medicines, strengthening Pfizer's oncology portfolio as its COVID business shrinks. Analysts expect revenue to fall 5.2% a year over three years, while earnings rise from $4.3 billion to $9.1 billion by 2029. The average price target of $28.88 sits 2.6% above the current $28.12 share price. Pricing pressure, high debt, and pipeline execution remain key risks.

HER2 targeted therapies market to hit $16.34B by 2030 on 8.6% CAGR

The global HER2 targeted therapies market is forecast to grow from $10.84 billion in 2025 to $11.75 billion in 2026, according to a Research and Markets report. It is expected to reach $16.34 billion by 2030, a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 8.6% from 2026. Demand for targeted cancer treatments, rising breast and gastric cancer rates, and wider use of monoclonal antibody therapies are driving growth. Precision oncology, broader biomarker testing, and next-generation antibody-drug conjugates should support it further. In February 2026, Boehringer Ingelheim won US Food and Drug Administration approval for HERNEXEOS (zongertinib) for HER2-mutant advanced non-small cell lung cancer. In December 2023, Pfizer bought Seagen for about $43 billion. North America led the market in 2025; Asia-Pacific is expected to grow fastest.

Edison Scientific to deploy Kosmos AI scientist across Pfizer's R&D pipeline

Edison Scientific has agreed to deploy its Edison AI Platform and Kosmos, its AI scientist, across Pfizer's biopharmaceutical research and development pipeline. The deal was announced in San Francisco on October 29, 2026. Kosmos will access Pfizer's data in areas including oncology, internal medicine, and immunology. It will support scientists, inform R&D decisions, and help speed the discovery of potential new medicines. Edison's scientists and engineers will work with Pfizer's research teams to build Kosmos into specific workflows. Kosmos will keep learning, combining public data with Pfizer's proprietary drug development data. "At Pfizer's scale, the opportunity to turn accumulated scientific experience into better decisions is extraordinary," said Sam Rodriques, chief executive officer of Edison Scientific. Edison spun out of the nonprofit lab FutureHouse in 2025 and is backed by $70 million from Spark Capital, Triatomic Capital, and other investors.

Pfizer Q3 preview: obesity drug progress meets 95% Paxlovid slump, with EPS seen at $0.73

Pfizer reports third-quarter results before the open on Tuesday, November 3. Shares have gained 25% year to date, and the report will test whether non-COVID growth and obesity progress can outpace a shrinking pandemic business. Consensus expects earnings per share of $0.73, 16% below last year, partly due to a roughly $0.10 Innovent charge. Revenue is forecast at $15.88B, against $16.65B a year earlier. Last quarter, Pfizer beat estimates with adjusted earnings per share of $0.77 and revenue of $15.03B. Paxlovid sales fell 95% and Comirnaty dropped 34%, while Eliquis rose 21% to $2.43B. It raised full-year revenue guidance to $60.5B to $62.5B. On obesity, monthly berobenatide delivered placebo-corrected weight loss of up to 12.3% in a trial. Pfizer plans 10 Phase III studies in 2026 and targets a first approval in 2028.
