Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent GED and at least one year of front-line customer service experience.
  • A demonstrated passion and appreciation for art, history, and culture, with willingness to share that knowledge with the public.
  • Comfort with technology or willingness to learn.
  • Ability to read, understand, and retain written information about the Museum, local history, and exhibits and use those resources effectively.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills and ability to clearly explain Museum policies and procedures.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and collaborate respectfully with colleagues.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, interact effectively with visitors, and remain calm and effective during high-traffic periods.
  • Ability to respond calmly to security or emergency situations using good judgment.
Responsibilities
  • Provide a proactive, friendly, and professional welcome to visitors, field trip groups, and adult tours in orientation areas and exhibition galleries.
  • Facilitate guided tours and gallery talks as assigned, adapting interpretation methods for varied audiences, including children, seniors, non-native English speakers, and visitors with disabilities.
  • Follow and enforce policies and manuals for visitor engagement, safety, and operations.
  • Maintain working knowledge of current exhibitions, basic institutional history, and ongoing educational programming.
  • Relay visitor feedback and inquiries and resolve issues using established protocols and training.
  • Monitor museum facilities and ensure public spaces, tour routes, and event spaces are clean, safe, and appropriately set up.
  • Perform light custodial or room-preparation tasks as needed.
  • Ensure guest safety and artifact preservation in coordination with Public Safety officers and museum staff.
  • Support special events, private rentals, receptions, and public programs.
  • Assist with event logistics, guest check-in, directional staffing, venue setup and breakdown, and vendor oversight during after-hours functions.
Desired Qualifications
  • Previous museum or cultural organization experience.
  • College education in art history and some museum or public/customer service work experience.
