- Graduation from an education program approved by the credentialing body for the required credential.
- No prior experience is required.
- Current Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association, or instructor certification.
- One of the following certifications is required: ARMRIT Registered Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologist, ARRT American Registry of Radiologic Technologists, ARRT-N Radiologic Technologist–Nuclear Medicine Technology, ARRT-MR Radiologic Technologist–Magnetic Resonance Imaging, ARRT-SON Radiologic Technologist–Sonography, CMRT Certified Medical Radiologic Technologist with state licensure, or CNMT Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist.
- Proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing English sufficient to perform essential job functions affecting patient or employee safety or security.
- Basic computer knowledge and the ability to operate hospital and radiology information systems and office software.
- Ability to adapt to multiple ongoing priorities with minimal supervision, organize workflow, and participate in problem-solving.
- Perform routine, common, special, and moderately complex diagnostic MRI procedures, progressing toward higher-complexity exams.
- Provide direct assistance to physicians during diagnostic and special MRI procedures, including sterile technique.
- Assess patient needs and adjust positioning, procedure preparation, physiology-related approaches, and technical factors to optimize patient care, image quality, and patient experience.
- Explain procedures and provide instructions to patients and family members using appropriate verbal and non-verbal communication.
- Follow imaging, radiation safety, infection control, sterile, and aseptic technique standards and hospital policies.
- Report near misses and errors through the hospital patient safety reporting system, and contribute to corrective actions and quality and safety improvement activities.
- Perform daily imaging equipment quality control, report malfunctions, practice preventive maintenance, and request service when needed.
- Observe and address patient reactions to contrast media or medications and obtain assistance when appropriate.
- Document patient procedures accurately and completely and enter charges when services are delivered.
- Use resources efficiently, manage time independently, and prioritize daily tasks.
- Participate in department projects, shared governance activities, in-service programs, and continuing education.
- Maintain ongoing growth and development beyond baseline technologist competencies.
- Collaborate with the patient care team and communicate pertinent patient-care information.
- Work scheduled weekend and Monday shifts and participate in on-call coverage during emergencies.
- Travel within and outside the Houston metropolitan area as required by the department.
