About the company

Emerson provides automation technology for critical industries. It supplies software and intelligent devices that monitor, control, and optimize industrial processes in settings like power plants, chemical facilities, and factories. Its products include sensors, controllers, measurement instruments, and software that work together to automate operations, improve safety, and increase efficiency. Unlike many peers, Emerson has narrowed its focus from a broad conglomerate to a dedicated industrial automation company, combining hardware, software, and services and expanding through targeted acquisitions (such as National Instruments) to deliver end-to-end automation solutions. Its goal is to help modern industries run more reliably and efficiently by providing integrated systems that manage complex processes.

3 automation stocks poised to thrive as rate hikes and inflation pressure margins

US industrial automation companies Rockwell Automation, Emerson, and Honeywell Technologies are positioned to benefit as rising interest rates push businesses to cut costs through automation. The Federal Reserve's interest rate hikes have increased borrowing costs and inflation pressures, forcing companies to improve efficiency. Rockwell Automation reported 10% organic sales growth in its fiscal third quarter of 2026, with adjusted earnings up 40%. Strong demand came from semiconductors, data centres, e-commerce, and warehouse automation sectors. Emerson, with a $90 billion market capitalisation, saw underlying sales rise 6% and adjusted earnings increase 13% in the same period. Its semiconductor sales jumped 70% year over year. Honeywell Technologies recently spun off its aerospace business to focus on industrial and building automation. Its stand-alone business achieved 4% organic sales growth, with orders rising 16% and backlog reaching $20 billion. All three companies are trading above their five-year average valuations.
