A Class G Statewide Firearm License is required before appointment and must be maintained.

Must qualify for, obtain, and maintain a City of Jacksonville public driver certification.

Responsibilities
Patrol, secure, and inspect public buildings to protect against vandalism, fire, and other hazards.
Write reports or complete documents such as noteworthy incident reports, security logs, and response-to-resistance documents.
Notify department officials, Fire Departments, and Police Departments when requesting service.
Protect cashiers at special events.
Escort employees to parking lots and cars.
Monitor and screen people entering and leaving City premises and areas under patrol.
Detain or warn trespassers, intruders, vagrants, or prowlers to desist, and notify proper authorities.
Monitor surveillance cameras.
Operate walk-through body scanners, x-ray scanners, metal detectors, telephones, computers, and two-way radio equipment.
Wear a firearm and appropriate protective gear.
Scan individuals and their personal belongings as they enter City buildings to ensure weapons or contraband are not brought inside.
Provide information and directions to visitors and other City employees.
Transport cash to the Tax Collector once a day as an armed Security Officer.
Demonstrate proficiency in the City of Jacksonville's competencies.
Perform related work as required.

Job Description
This is protective service work in securing, patrolling and surveilling passageways of City property and grounds, and providing safety to the public. The work requires knowledge of work routines, procedures, rules, and regulations used in protecting City property and grounds that are learned through specialized training and job experiences. Contacts require skills in assessing, anticipating, reacting, and influencing behavior to turn a situation around. The security work is fairly routine following established routines, standing instructions and established procedures, but some variation in sequence of procedure is allowed based on situations encountered. Work is performed in an inside environment requiring outside patrols where risks and hazards are known, somewhat predictable and controllable. Operates computer, telephone, security walk through body scanners, x-ray scanners, metal detector devices, motor vehicle, two-way radio, surveillance equipment and firearms. The physical demands consist of sitting, observing, standing, and walking on patrol to secure building. May require the lifting of heavy objects weighing more than 50 pounds. The work is performed under general supervision where the work assignments are subject to instructions and established work routines, and the worker is given latitude to rearrange the sequence based on changing work situations.
