Requirements
  • A Child Development Associate credential, Associate of Science in Child Development, Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education or Child Development, Associate of Arts or degree in Elementary Education or a related field, including equivalent early-childhood education coursework for a waiver.
  • Meet all state licensing-mandated courses and obtain First Aid and CPR certifications within six months of employment.
  • Be computer literate in Windows Microsoft Office, including Outlook and Word, and Teaching Strategies Online GOLD.
  • Be in good physical health as documented by a physician examination upon hire and updated annually.
  • Obtain a tuberculosis screening upon hire.
  • Comply with background-screening requirements and update the screening every five years.
  • Be able to sit on the floor or ground outdoors, lift up to 50 pounds, and stoop, crawl, kneel, bend, and stand for periods of time.
  • Have reliable transportation and be able to travel by car, bus, plane, or train.
  • Be available for paid evening or weekend meetings, trainings, and other work-related events.
Responsibilities
  • Promote education and early childhood development according to organizational policies, Early Head Start Performance Standards, School Readiness Goals, APPLE Standards, and Department of Children and Families licensing regulations.
  • Report indoor and outdoor safety hazards and signs of illness, discomfort, unusual behavior, suspected abuse, or neglect through the required channels.
  • Complete paperwork related to nutrition, illness, accidents and incidents, health assessments, and parent communication.
  • Practice sanitary procedures, including sanitizing, cleaning, diapering and toileting, and handwashing.
  • Help children develop self-help skills and use family-style meals to promote school-readiness skills.
  • Maintain the center by cleaning and sanitizing surfaces, managing waste receptacles, spot-cleaning walls, windows, and mirrors, and keeping sidewalks, trike paths, and playgrounds free of debris.
  • Implement indoor and outdoor lesson plans, activities, environmental setups, daily routines, and transitions that support child development and school-readiness goals.
  • Engage children daily in small-group and individual activities and model appropriate behavior, positive guidance, language, and grammar.
  • Comply with Early Head Start, APPLE, Florida learning and developmental, licensing, and educational policies and standards.
  • Implement the Creative Curriculum, Beyond Cribs & Rattles, and I Love You Rituals to promote character development.
  • Use Teaching Strategies Online GOLD for quarterly assessment checkpoints, ongoing assessment, individualized planning, child portfolios, observations, documentation, objective-linked planning, and family conferences.
  • Schedule and participate in two home visits and two parent conferences per child per program year.
  • Partner with parents to set school-readiness goals and develop individual plans.
  • Build positive relationships with children, parents, coworkers, visitors, and community partners while following conduct, confidentiality, and human-resources policies.
  • Address problems positively and refer policy questions to the Area Director.
  • Provide parent-engagement and volunteer opportunities and encourage parents to advocate for their children.
  • Attend parent, staff, and community meetings as assigned.
  • Coordinate with teachers and content-area staff to maintain a teaching-team approach.
  • Complete and maintain required records, reports, and paperwork by applicable deadlines.
  • Complete required professional-development courses, in-service training, certifications, and credentials within specified time frames.
  • Attend assigned or mandated trainings, conferences, and other educational opportunities and apply the knowledge gained.
  • Review and update the Professional Development Plan with the Area Director throughout the program year.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisory staff.
