What believers are saying

  • August 2026 workshops with NCC and Maltz Museum show strong partnership demand.
  • ICS still runs free, standards-driven educator training, expanding low-cost national reach.
  • Susan Kardos became CEO in March 2025, signaling professionalized post-spinout execution.

What critics are saying

  • ICS faces reputational blowback from critics framing its curriculum work as advocacy.
  • Dependence on philanthropic grants leaves hiring and program scale exposed after 2025.
  • If school-district adoption stalls, its niche relevance and donor momentum weaken quickly.

What makes Institute for Curriculum Services unique

  • ICS specializes in K-12 Judaism and Jewish-history curricula, not broad religious education.
  • Its workshops use primary sources and First Amendment framing with National Constitution Center.
  • The 2024 spinout made ICS an independent national nonprofit with dedicated fundraising.

Jewish Community Relations Council: Institute for Curriculum Services – National Teacher Training Initiative - Jim Joseph Foundation

To support the Institute for Curriculum Services' (ICS) National Teacher Training Initiative. The 2016 grant is for ICs's National Professional Development Scale Up Initiative to offer significantly more professional development on Judaism and the Arab-Israeli conflict in order to support teachers in meeting their curricular mandates. By working with social studies textbook publishers, developing curricular resources, and training middle and high school social studies teachers around the country, ICS’s work improves the quality of education for the millions of public and private school students learning about Jewish subjects each year in the United States.
