Requirements
  • A master's or higher degree from an accredited college or university that includes coursework in nursing, education, or administration.
  • One year of experience as an administrator with validated performance of administrative responsibilities.
  • Two years of experience teaching in pre- or post-licensure registered nursing programs.
  • One continuous full-time, or equivalent, experience providing direct patient care as a registered nurse, or equivalent experience and/or education as determined by the Board of Registered Nursing.
  • Active Registered Nurse licensure in the state of California.
  • In-depth knowledge of the Education Code, Title 5, and other administrative regulations, with the ability to apply them.
  • Knowledge of the technical aspects of the specialty field.
  • Knowledge of supervision, training, and personnel evaluation principles and practices.
  • Ability to delegate effectively, hold others responsible, and instill confidence among staff and faculty.
  • Ability to exercise academic leadership to advance the College's mission.

Responsibilities
  • Direct, develop, implement, and supervise the operation of the Nursing Programs, including general administration, program curriculum, and accreditation.
  • Provide leadership for all Nursing Programs activities.
  • Direct, supervise, and administer Nursing Programs activities related to student recruitment, enrollment, retention, evaluations, promotion, completion, licensure preparation, and placement.
  • Develop Nursing Programs goals and objectives with faculty; prepare and administer the budget; seek additional funding through private, state, and federal grants; and monitor and approve program expenditures.
  • Initiate and maintain contractual agreements with service agencies used for Nursing Programs student clinical placements.
  • Attend health care organization meetings, including meetings at clinical agencies mandated by the California Board of Nursing and the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission.
  • Supervise and evaluate Health Professions technicians and coordinate ordering and maintenance of supplies and equipment for Nursing Professions laboratories.
  • Supervise support staff for all Nursing Programs.
  • Interpret, develop, and administer Nursing Programs department policies and procedures with faculty and other administrators.
  • Review and coordinate revisions to the Nursing Faculty Handbook, Nursing Student Handbook, catalog, and brochure information relevant to the Programs.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty and administrators and communicate with college personnel.
  • Maintain professional relationships with members and representatives of local, state, and national committees and organizations.
  • Attend program-related activities, campus health care organizational and professional committee meetings, and conferences.
  • Represent and actively participate in local, state, and national nursing programs and organizations.
  • Assist with community outreach activities for other Health Professions departments.
  • Recruit, screen, hire, train, develop, supervise, and evaluate Nursing Programs faculty members.
  • Prepare and implement Nursing Programs class schedules and faculty assignments with faculty and appropriate administrators.
  • Provide guidance and work direction to Nursing Programs faculty members.
  • Maintain Nursing Programs student records and program statistics.
  • Ensure compliance with California Board of Registered Nursing rules, Nursing Programs regulations, clinical facility regulations, the Education Code, union contracts, National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission guidelines, and other district, local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Lead and provide procedural expertise in developing the self-study for Board of Registered Nursing and National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission accreditation or reaccreditation visits.
  • Coordinate visits of Board of Registered Nursing and National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission site examiners.
  • Respond to and implement Board of Registered Nursing and National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission recommendations.
  • Develop, coordinate, and implement Nursing Programs class and teaching schedules.
  • Coordinate Nursing Programs curriculum development and revision.
  • Serve as liaison between Nursing Programs staff and the Senior Dean.
  • Collaborate with Nursing Programs faculty, Advisory Committee members, and community professionals to monitor changes in community needs, demographics, and health care reform and maintain current curricula responsive to community needs.
  • Prepare Nursing Programs department, district, state, and federally mandated reports.
  • Review and approve administrative paperwork related to all Nursing Programs.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
