Requirements
  • A master's degree in Advanced Registered Nursing.
  • Current and valid Advanced Practice Registered Nurse licensure in the State of Florida.
  • Credentialing to practice by the Hospital Medical Board.
  • One year of experience as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse, preferably in obstetrics and gynecology or oncology.
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply professional medical principles, procedures, and techniques.
  • Good physical assessment skills.
  • Ability to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal health regulations.
Responsibilities
  • Provide medical care to patients of the Gynecologic Oncology outpatient and inpatient service by collecting comprehensive histories and making physical, neurological, and gynecological assessments on women in consultation with physicians according to divisional protocols.
  • Perform screening and diagnostic medical procedures as training and experience allow and with physician supervision, including Pap smear or vaginal culture collection, colposcopy, loop electrosurgical excision procedure, cryotherapy, biopsies, endocervical curettage, and intrauterine device insertion and removal.
  • Consult and refer complicated medical problems to appropriate division physicians or other subspecialties as needed.
  • Recruit and manage patients for participation in Gynecologic Oncology research trials.
  • Assist with teaching housestaff and students rotating through the Gynecologic Oncology Service.
  • Provide continuity of care for patients on the Gynecologic Oncology Service.
  • Make independent decisions in monitoring and altering drug therapies and initiating appropriate therapies according to established protocols.
  • Function within the legal scope of Advanced Practice Registered Nurse practice and prescribe medication within that scope.
  • Follow up on abnormal laboratory tests.
  • Perform patient education and participate in patient and family interventions.
  • Assist with clinic nursing staff development.
  • Promote, support, and facilitate engagement in evidence-based practice, research conduct, research utilization, and dissemination of research results.
  • Coordinate, guide, lead, and support Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center activities and serve as liaison to the nursing shared governance structure.
  • Organize and implement clinical research projects accurately and monitor the care and protection of patients in research studies.
  • Conduct research needs assessments and use results to construct a strategic plan for developing clinical research for nursing.
  • Screen and recruit subjects for clinical studies and review and assess clinical study data.
  • Collaborate to develop programs that educate, mentor, and enhance nursing staff knowledge.
  • Foster an environment conducive to inquiry, research, and practice.
  • Facilitate interdepartmental and interdisciplinary research activities, including generating research interest groups.
  • Participate in performance improvement, quality improvement, and patient safety activities.
  • Assist in maintaining compliance with accreditation and internal and external regulatory standards, including the code of conduct.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
