About the job

Requirements
  • A desire to work with individuals with a history of using non-opiate substances and an understanding of the harms caused by illicit substance misuse and dependency, particularly non-opiate substances.
  • An in-depth understanding of potential barriers to engagement and change, and experience working creatively with service users who may benefit from an individualised approach to engagement.
  • A creative and innovative approach to motivating individuals to recognise the benefits of accessing structured treatment, including group work, digital recovery tools, and mutual aid, and supporting them to do so.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in effective risk-management planning and working with individuals with multiple disadvantages, including managing risks of overdose, self-harm, and suicidal ideation.
  • Experience providing harm-reduction advice and information to reduce the negative impact of drug use on individuals, their families or carers, and communities, and to improve physical and psychological health and wellbeing.
  • Extensive knowledge of and experience delivering motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), BSF, and task-oriented tools and techniques to elicit sustained behaviour change.
  • A qualification of NVQ level 3 or above in Substance Misuse or equivalent, or a willingness to work towards such a qualification.
  • Working knowledge of contributing to service targets and key performance indicators, and accountability for collating and monitoring data to manage individual performance.
Responsibilities
  • Provide bespoke psychosocial interventions for identified service users to engage them in appropriate treatment, deliver a whole-person health-based approach, and achieve positive client outcomes.
  • Work within an integrated non-opiate team and contribute to evidence-based best practice by delivering a bespoke non-opiate treatment offer addressing substance misuse, physical health, mental health, housing, employment, and overall wellbeing.
  • Deliver one-to-one psychosocial interventions, be available to co-facilitate group interventions, and deliver trauma-informed care approaches.
  • Partner with social services, secondary mental health services, probation, and housing providers, using a flexible and agile approach to help individuals reduce harm, cease drug use, and sustain recovery.
  • Liaise with the group programme, behavioural change team, harm reduction team, clinical team, assertive outreach workers, and aftercare team to develop bespoke individual service-user support plans that facilitate sustained recovery at the earliest opportunity.
  • Work alongside the Think Family Coordinator, where appropriate, to engage women service users in relevant parenting programmes and reduce the likelihood of intergenerational trauma.
  • Coordinate, contribute to, and participate in multidisciplinary meetings by providing high-quality written and verbal reports.
  • Contribute to monitoring and evaluating the service for non-opiate-using service users, and actively involve, engage, and consult service users and Peer Mentors in ongoing service development.
