Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • A minimum of 1 year of experience as a Medical Assistant is required.
  • The candidate must have basic computer skills, including familiarity with electronic medical records.
  • The candidate must be proficient with Google Suite, including Drive, Docs, Sheets, and Slides, and Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, for real-time collaboration.
  • The candidate must be able to display excellent telephone and switchboard etiquette.
  • The candidate must have a full range of body motion, including the ability to handle and transfer patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.
  • The candidate must be able to stand, walk, push, bend, kneel, and reach at arm’s length and overhead in a clinic for prolonged periods.
  • The candidate must be able to sit or stand for prolonged periods and sit for extended periods.
  • The candidate must be able to lift and move patients and medical equipment as needed and lift or carry up to 15 pounds.
  • The candidate must have corrected vision and hearing within the normal range.

Responsibilities
  • Greet and prepare patients for provider examinations by obtaining patient history, chief complaint, current medications, medical history, allergies, surgical history, family history, social history, and other preventive-medicine reviews; take patients’ vital signs; and record the information in the patient electronic medical record.
  • Assist providers with examinations, treatments, and procedures as directed.
  • Maintain complete and detailed electronic medical records of patients’ information.
  • Measure and record vital signs in the electronic medical record.
  • Handle front-desk operations, including answering phones, greeting patients, scheduling appointments, addressing routine inquiries, and triaging calls.
  • Maintain patient medical records in accordance with the center’s policy.
  • Explain treatment procedures, medications, diets, and providers’ instructions to patients.
  • Prepare patients and examination rooms.
  • Complete patient phone calls, including proactive care coordination, medication reminders, appointment reminders, and transitional care management, and document telephone encounters accordingly.
  • Provide patient and provider support during procedures by handing instruments or equipment to the physician as directed.
  • Clean and sterilize instruments and equipment after use and dispose of contaminated supplies.
  • Administer oral and injectable medications; irrigate eyes and ears; dress and bandage wounds and incisions; start and monitor intravenous infusions; and assist physicians with procedures as requested.
  • Perform in-office diagnostic tests, including eye exams, electrocardiograms, oxygen administration as ordered, pulse oximetry, peak-flow testing, and inhalation treatments.
  • Perform in-office Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments-waived laboratory tests.
  • Carry out quality controls for laboratory equipment and testing, maintain laboratory-related logs, perform PT/INR testing using CoaguChek or Coag-Sense machines, and perform glucose testing using a glucometer.
  • Complete electronic medical records with medical services rendered, test results, and supplies used.
  • Monitor disposable inventory and order medical supplies and pharmaceuticals as requested.
  • Draw blood and process specimens for send-out.
  • Provide patient education as directed by the provider.
  • Perform front-office clerical duties, including patient check-in and check-out, referrals, prescription medication management, and inbound and outbound telephone calls.
  • Maintain adequate inventory of office medications and medical supplies and order them as needed.
  • Assist with onboarding and training new team members.
  • Assist with inventory and maintain office supplies.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program, preferably with Registered Medical Assistant or Certified Medical Assistant credentials.
  • CPR certification.
  • IV Start Certification.
  • Phlebotomy experience, including knowledge of various collection methods and testing such as bleeding times, collecting donor blood, bedside testing, and preparing specimens.
  • Knowledge of medical coding.
  • Knowledge of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act.
  • Knowledge of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
  • Working knowledge of common prescription medications used to treat conditions and diseases affecting the assigned patient population.
