Requirements
  • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, with at least 3 years working full-stack in Ruby on Rails and modern frontend frameworks (React, or similar).
  • Strong track record of shipping complex features end-to-end with measurable customer impact. You have solid product sense and understand how to balance speed with quality.
  • Deep technical strength in performance/scalability and production debugging across the stack—database queries, service architecture, and frontend optimization.
  • You're comfortable using AI coding assistants (Cursor, Claude, or similar) in your daily workflow and excited to experiment with new tools that improve efficiency.
Responsibilities
  • Own end-to-end delivery – Lead projects from technical design through production for the HRM domain, working across Rails services and modern React (TypeScript) frontends.
  • Write production code – You're hands-on across the stack: Ruby, Rails, React, Postgres. You debug performance issues, refactor legacy code, and ship clean, testable features.
  • Shape technical direction – Partner with the Engineers, PM, and Designer to make architecture decisions. Participate in critical design discussions with engineering and product leadership.
  • Mentor and raise the bar – Guide engineers through code reviews, pairing sessions, and technical feedback. Help the team level up on patterns, testing, and system design.
  • Build with AI – Use AI coding assistants (Cursor, Claude) daily to move faster. Build features that integrate AI capabilities where they make sense (e.g., intelligent scheduling, workflow automation).
  • Collaborate cross-functionally – Work with data teams to productionize models, coordinate with platform teams on shared infrastructure, and align with other domain teams (SB, CE, and more) on cross-cutting initiatives.
Desired Qualifications
  • TypeScript experience preferred

Homebase provides a digital workforce management platform for businesses with hourly workers. It combines time tracking, employee scheduling, payroll processing, and built-in messaging to help managers run their teams more efficiently. Time tracking turns any device into a time clock to record hours, breaks, and overtime, reducing paperwork. Scheduling lets managers plan and adjust shifts online and share the plan with the team instantly. Payroll automatically calculates pay, makes direct deposits, and handles payroll taxes. The built-in messaging keeps managers and team members connected, even when they’re not on site. The service is mainly used by small businesses with hourly workers and is priced as a software-and-services offering. The goal is to simplify and streamline day-to-day operations for hourly workforces by providing an all-in-one tool to manage time, schedules, pay, and communication in one place.
