Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree and 1-2 years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, are required.
  • Demonstrate superior interpersonal skills and a high level of comfort talking to strangers.
  • Have community experience, knowledge of, and a high level of comfort working in Philadelphia neighborhoods.
  • Be willing to drive or take public transportation to selected neighborhoods.
  • Demonstrate strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Be able to work in a self-guided environment.
  • Demonstrate attention to detail.
Responsibilities
  • Conduct grassroots, door-to-door, and other community-based outreach in North, West, South, and Southwest Philadelphia to engage residents in a research partnership with Penn studying racial and ethnic health disparities related to eczema.
  • Educate community members about the importance of research participation and increase access to research opportunities.
  • Describe the study and obtain informed consent from eligible participants.
  • Provide information about educational opportunities and other resources related to eczema care.
  • Assist with data collection from study participants through home visits.
  • Collect data and maintain canvassing records.
  • Participate in basic training on eczema and research procedures.
  • Participate in regular research team meetings.
  • Support and interact with principal investigators, co-investigators, research managers, and other research staff.
  • Maintain relevant trainings and certifications, including CITI, Good Clinical Practice, Penn Clinical Research Coordinator certification, and assigned Penn Profiler trainings.
  • Adhere to University of Pennsylvania, Good Clinical Practice, and Food and Drug Administration guidelines.
  • Assist with the collection, processing, and shipping of human specimens and/or environmental samples when assigned.
  • Work-related responsibilities may occur before 8 a.m., after 5 p.m., and on weekend days.
Desired Qualifications
  • Fluency in Spanish.
  • Background or familiarity with health equity, health disparities research, and/or public health or community organizing.
