About the job

Requirements
  • At least 4 years of hands-on U.S. payroll experience, including at least 2 years independently owning full-cycle, multi-state payroll for 500 or more W-2 employees; experience with 1,000 or more is strongly preferred.
  • Deep knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll tax, including state unemployment insurance rates, wage-and-hour requirements, garnishments, final pay, and year-end reporting; experience maintaining state tax accounts, overseeing provider-filed returns, and resolving agency notices.
  • Experience with quarter-end and year-end processing, payroll accounting, internal controls, and general-ledger reconciliation.
  • Hands-on experience with benefits, 401(k), and workers' compensation reconciliations or audits.
  • Experience with Rippling or another modern payroll and human resources information system platform, advanced Excel or Google Sheets, and large payroll datasets.
  • Demonstrated use of artificial intelligence or automation tools to build and launch a knowledge base, workflow, bot, or script used by others.
  • Must be based in the United States or Canada, able to work core U.S. business hours, and meet firm payroll deadlines.
Responsibilities
  • Own scheduled and off-cycle payroll runs in Rippling for more than 1,000 W-2 employees across multiple states, validating timekeeping, compensation changes, garnishments, deductions, and final pay each cycle.
  • Perform pre- and post-payroll reviews, variance analysis, and funding validation; reconcile payroll to bank, tax, benefits, retirement-plan, and general-ledger records.
  • Administer approved payments to practice owners and other nonemployees, supporting year-end information reporting on Forms 1099.
  • Manage federal, state, and local payroll-tax accounts, including registrations, closures, state unemployment insurance rates, filing frequencies, and authorizations, as the company enters new states.
  • Oversee filings and payments completed by Rippling, and resolve tax notices, amendments, penalties, and credits with documented closure.
  • Lead quarter-end and year-end activities, including Forms 941 and 940, W-2/W-3, and applicable Forms 1099; serve as the primary escalation point for employee and practice-owner payroll questions.
  • Lead recurring insurance reconciliations by matching carrier invoices against enrollments, employee deductions, and employer contributions.
  • Own 401(k) reconciliations covering deductions, contributions, loan repayments, and recordkeeper funding; support annual testing, Form 5500 preparation, and the independent plan audit.
  • Coordinate annual workers' compensation premium audits by preparing payroll exposure by state, location, and classification code; resolve findings with Finance, People Operations, brokers, and carriers.
  • Serve as the Rippling system owner, managing configurations, permissions, reporting, internal controls, role-based access, and audit-ready records.
  • Build the payroll knowledge base as the company's single source of truth for policies, state requirements, and standard operating procedures.
  • Design and deploy agentic artificial-intelligence workflows that answer routine payroll questions automatically and route sensitive, employee-specific cases for human review.
  • Automate recurring work such as agency-notice triage, reconciliations, audit preparation, and reporting; track accuracy, timeliness, and open-notice counts.
Desired Qualifications
  • Direct Rippling administration or implementation experience.
  • Healthcare, applied behavior analysis, multi-clinic, multi-entity, or large hourly-workforce experience.
  • Experience with practice-owner or other nonemployee payment programs at scale.
  • Certified Payroll Professional designation.
  • Experience building knowledge bases, workflow automation, or artificial-intelligence-enabled tools in a payroll or finance context.

What believers are saying

  • A 2026-03 job post shows continued hiring for practice owners and BCBAs.
  • Finni's site reports 90% of families see meaningful progress in six months.
  • Broad payer acceptance and mental-health care expansion widen referral and revenue opportunities.

What critics are saying

  • Finni's $3.2 million seed round from 2023 looks small against national ABA operators.
  • If insurer credentialing slows, the 2-week-to-2-plus-month onboarding gap throttles growth.
  • A BCBA labor shortage can break service delivery and erase the practice-owner model.

What makes Finni Health unique

  • Finni pairs ABA care with practice-owner software, recruiting BCBAs to run independent clinics.
  • It serves families in 25-plus states and claims 1,000-plus families helped by 2026-10.
  • Finni emphasizes in-home ABA, insurance coordination, and rapid therapist matching within 24 hours.

'Innovating with confidence': BC firms shine bright on Deloitte's Fast 50 list.

'Innovating with confidence': BC firms shine bright on Deloitte's Fast 50 list. Deloitte Canada today revealed the winners of its 2026 Technology Fast 50 program. Now in its 29th year, the Technology Fast program recognizes achievements made by Canada's fastest-growing technology companies, celebrating entrepreneurial spirit and highlighting commitment to innovation across three distinct categories: Technology Fast 50, Enterprise - Industry Leaders, and Companies-to-Watch. This year's Technology Fast 50 cohort achieved an average growth rate of 3,079%, a strong showing by historical standards. Toronto's Finni Health tops this year's Technology Fast 50 category, posting four-year revenue growth of 46,574%. In the Enterprise - Industry Leaders category, Vancouver's UniUni secured first place with four-year revenue growth of 2,143%. Meanwhile, Ottawa's Turbopuffer topped the Companies-to-Watch category, achieving three-year revenue growth of 65,443%. "These companies have excelled through their relentless focus on the fundamentals of growth: winning customers, attracting investment, building strong teams, and pursuing new opportunities," commented Amanda Perran, Partner and national co-leader for the Technology Fast 50 program at Deloitte Canada. "The next stage of their journey will be defined by how effectively they combine that ambition with the capital, talent, and AI-enabled capabilities needed to create sustainable, long-term value," she stated. Making up nearly 30% of the Fast 50 list, top performers from British Columbia include SimplyAsk (5th), Total Life (6th), and Clarity (10th). Minga (15th), TravelAI (16th), and Hypercharge (17th) also made the Fast 50 list, as did Yocale Network (18th), Quandri (20th), and veritree (27th). Other B.C.-based winners include Hydreight (31st), Apera (37th), Oxygen8 (43rd), Orchestry (44th), and VRIFY (48th). For some, like Oxygen8 and Hydreight, it is their third or fourth time on the list. Others, such as SimplyAsk and Quandri, are returning for their second time. UniUni and KOHO ranked first and second among Enterprise - Industry Leaders, with both having now made Deloitte's list at least thrice. Jane (12th) and MineSense (14th) also ranked on the 15-company list. Local Companies-to-Watch include LAC, M2M Tech, Durable, Versafile, and pH7 Technologies. "The strongest signal from the 2026 Technology Fast 50 class is confidence," believes Brendan Cooper, partner and national co-leader for the Technology Fast 50 program at Deloitte Canada. "These Canadian companies have been shaped by disruption and proven through crunch periods," Cooper said. "That resilience is showing in how they lead today." "They are investing, hiring, and innovating through uncertainty with confidence," he stated.
