fab2 builds a software-defined semiconductor manufacturing platform. It designs and manufactures the hardware, software, and process technology needed to produce chips, including its own fabrication facilities, lithography equipment, and automation systems. Its Lockhart, Texas fab is meant to supply the tools and infrastructure to scale chip production, while its Austin and San Francisco facilities support development. fab2 is also developing Studio, a browser-based collaborative electronic design automation (EDA) environment for chip design. The company aims to enable scalable, accessible chip manufacturing and collaborative chip design by providing an integrated stack of hardware, software, process technology, and design tools.

Simplify Jobs

Simplify's Take

What believers are saying

  • Fab2 reported a $500 million Series A on September 9, 2026.
  • The company expanded to Austin and Lockhart, showing capital-intensive execution momentum.
  • Texas hiring and a 120,000-square-foot Austin site support faster hiring and production scaling.

What critics are saying

  • Electron-beam lithography slows throughput versus EUV, limiting commercial scale after 2026.
  • Fab2 has no disclosed revenue, yields, customer deployments, or verified process-node roadmap.
  • If Lockhart fails to mass-produce fabs cheaply, the whole recursive manufacturing thesis collapses.

What makes Fab2 unique

  • Jim Keller and Sam Zeloof combine elite chip design with garage-fab credibility.
  • Fab2's July 2026 Texas rebrand centers on a vertically integrated 'fab fab' model.
  • Studio unifies layout, schematic, and simulation inside browser-based collaborative EDA.
