Requirements
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Basic knowledge of coding systems, including ICD-10 and CPT, is required.
- Expert use of Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Visio is required.
- A coding certification, such as CPC or CCS, is preferred.
- An RHIT, CCS, CCA, CPC, CPC-A, or other coding credential is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Accurately assign codes to inpatient, outpatient, and emergency service diagnoses, procedures, and conditions as indicated in the patient medical record.
- Perform coding using ICD-10 and CPT classification systems in accordance with official coding guidelines from the American Medical Association, the American Hospital Association, and the American Health Information Management Association.
- Carry out all work in accordance with Health Information Management Department and MUSC-approved policies and procedures.
