Requirements
  • Knowledge of the technical aspects of radiation oncology and medical physics sufficient to derive computerized treatment plans, communicate with the Radiation Oncologist for plan approval, and communicate with the Radiation Therapist for plan implementation.
  • Working knowledge of radiation safety and current regulations.
  • Ability to work effectively as a member of a team to provide accurate radiation therapy services.
  • A bachelor's degree with a major in the physical or biological sciences, medical dosimetry, or radiation therapy.
  • Certification in Medical Dosimetry from the Medical Dosimetrist Certification Board.
  • Graduation from a Medical Dosimetry JRCERT-accredited program.
  • At least 3 years of recent experience as a Dosimetrist in a clinical radiation therapy department, or equivalent applicable work experience.
  • The role requires working with computer equipment and various physics devices, as well as sitting, standing, and moving about.
  • The role is performed in a patient-care environment with risk of exposure to radiation.
  • The role requires compliance with infection-control precautions for patients or materials requiring isolation.
Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with Medical Physics to oversee dosimetry clinical operations.
  • Provide leadership, mentorship, and guidance to the dosimetry staff in accordance with departmental standards and procedures.
  • Monitor treatment-planning tasks and workflows to ensure timely completion and on-schedule patient treatment starts.
  • Participate in departmental quality-improvement initiatives.
  • Design treatment plans by computer or manual computation to deliver the prescribed radiation dose and field placement in accordance with the prescription.
  • Consider dose-limiting structures in plan design and document dose in accordance with the prescription.
  • Assist in treatment simulations and tumor localization on dedicated devices.
  • Perform or assist in planning the fabrication of compensation filters, custom shields, wedges, and other beam-modifying devices.
  • Perform or assist in planning the production of molds, casts, and other immobilization devices.
  • Coordinate with therapist staff implementing treatment plans, including the correct use of immobilization devices, compensators, wedges, field arrangement, and other treatment variables.
  • Perform calculations for accurate delivery of the prescribed dose, document pertinent information in the record, and verify the accuracy of all calculations as directed by the Medical Physicist.
  • Provide support to the Medical Physicist in radiation protection, qualitative machine calibrations, and quality assurance.
  • Perform or assist in the application of specific dosimetry methods, including ion chamber, thermoluminescent dosimeter, or film measurement, as directed by the Medical Physicist.
  • Assist in brachytherapy procedures and in the subsequent manual or computer calculation of dose distributions for these treatments.
  • Teach applied aspects of medical dosimetry to students and residents and participate in appropriate continuing education.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage time and prioritize workflow.

Beth Israel Lahey Health rolls out Heidi's AI scribing to all physicians after 90% report better patient presence

Beth Israel Lahey Health is rolling out Heidi's ambient AI scribing tool to all its physicians following a successful trial across its facilities. The health system, which serves over 6,000 providers across 14 hospitals and 175 primary care practices, prioritises addressing physician burnout, with nearly half of US physicians reporting burnout. During a six-month trial offering Heidi to 1,000 providers, the majority adopted the technology. Survey results showed 89% were satisfied with note quality, 90% felt more present with patients, 74% reduced after-hours work time, and 82% experienced reduced cognitive load during visits. The implementation demonstrates how ambient AI can deliver immediate relief to physicians whilst benefiting patients and the healthcare system. Heidi supports over 2 million consultations weekly globally and has raised $96.6 million from investors including Point72 Private Investments and Blackbird.
