  • Basic computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • P-1 Explosive Processor and Ammunition Explosive Handler (AEH) qualification.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, stand and walk for prolonged periods, and twist, bend, and squat periodically.
  • Must be able to obtain a Secret-level security clearance; U.S. citizenship is required for Secret clearance at this location.
Responsibilities
  • Participate in on-the-job training for Ammunition & Explosive Handler (AEH) and P-1 High Explosives Processor duties as mission needs dictate.
  • Support laboratory operations, materials testing, coatings development, equipment maintenance, and data management in an industrial research and development environment.
  • Use experimental and proven high-explosive and propellant materials in procedures and tests.
  • Perform non-standard, varied assignments involving melt casting with commercial off-the-shelf high-explosive material and development of small-scale melt casting and other experimental explosive processing.
  • Receive special instructions and assembly procedures from an engineer or test director and support the Lead Government Technician.
  • Fabricate custom high-explosive warheads for specialized testing in support of Army mission programs.
  • Prepare molds, warheads, and associated fixtures for processing; disassemble them after processing.
  • Ensure finished products meet customer requirements.
  • Prepare and operate energetic-processing equipment, including melt kettles, vertical high-shear mixers, horizontal mixers, presses, ovens, vacuum ovens, and saws.
  • Operate remote-monitoring camera equipment, monitors, controllers, and recorders.
  • Maintain, install, and make minor repairs to standard and custom energetic-processing equipment.
  • Measure and calculate physical properties, including density and porosity, on charges, motors, and warheads; record and document the data.
  • Compile and record quality-assurance and quality-control data, and prepare associated documents and reports.
  • Handle hazardous materials, propellants, high explosives, and associated materials in accordance with Army regulations and guidelines.
  • Conduct risk assessments for proven, experimental, and new procedures, coordinating with the Explosive Safety Office through walk-throughs and meetings as plans and procedures are developed.
  • Conduct energetic-processing operations, including explosive melt casting, cast/cure processing, propellant processing and extrusion, explosive pressing, and energetics machining and sawing.
  • Recommend and implement procedural enhancements to improve operational safety.
  • Hand-finish charges to precise tolerances.
  • Extract and compile engineering data from field notes, manuals, and laboratory reports; process data, identify errors or inconsistencies, and select methods of presentation.
  • Compile data related to designs, specifications, and materials to support modifications to equipment or component parts.
  • Deliver explosives and record same-date expenditures of ordnance items.
  • Operate explosives-laden vehicles and transport explosives in accordance with regulations.
  • Conduct experimental high-explosive characterization procedures and advise as a subject matter expert on melt-cast capabilities and properties for experimental explosives.
  • Select, adapt, or modify test equipment and procedures; set up and operate equipment; record data and complex problems; analyze results and prepare test reports.
  • Conduct analyses and processing tasks on conventional and experimental explosives, propellants, energetic materials, and associated facilities, equipment, and materials.
  • Conduct explosive-sensitivity testing using drop hammer, friction, and electrostatic discharge tests.
  • Support development of standard operating procedures for new and experimental processes.
  • Prepare samples and conduct thermal test operations using differential scanning calorimetry, vacuum thermal stability, and Henkin tests; operate and maintain applicable equipment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
