  • A current, valid, and clear California Registered Nursing License is required for California locations, or a Registered Nursing License from the state in which the Workforce Development site is located.
  • A master's or higher degree from an accredited college or university with coursework in nursing, education, or administration is required, or a Bachelor of Science in Nursing with enrollment in a Master of Science in Nursing program.
  • At least one year of teaching experience in pre- or post-licensure nursing programs at the associate, baccalaureate, master's, or doctoral level is required.
  • One year of continuous experience as a registered nurse providing direct patient care, or equivalent experience as determined by the Board of Nursing, is required.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills are required.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills are required.
  • Commitment to diversity as defined by California law is required.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with external and internal stakeholders is required.

Responsibilities
  • Assist the Dean with planning, developing, managing, updating, and evaluating all aspects of the nursing program, including faculty and staff, clinical site liaison activities, clinical calendars and matrices, curriculum development and implementation, regulatory compliance, student advocacy, policies and procedures, handbooks, the program budget, and supplies and equipment.
  • Prepare data and written materials for required state and Board requirements, reports, proposals, self-studies, surveys, and site visits.
  • Maintain on-site student records.
  • Collaborate with Human Resources to maintain required faculty and staff documentation.
  • Identify the need for outside resources for the nursing program.
  • Serve on program committees.
  • Assist with the admissions process and orientation.
  • Maintain a 50% teaching load in the skills lab, simulation lab, and/or clinical settings.
  • Ensure course and clinical evaluations are completed in a timely manner.
  • Assess clinical agencies to determine whether they can provide clinical experiences that meet theory and clinical course objectives, including evaluating risk, hazards, safety, and staffing adequacy.
  • Coordinate with clinical faculty and the Academic Program Manager regarding agency placements, student and faculty assignments, dates, times, and clinical objectives, and complete clinical approval forms before clinical rotations begin.
  • Meet monthly with the Clinical Partner and Assistant Dean, Workforce Development, to review clinical operations.
  • Participate in the assigned clinical consortium.
  • Collect and disseminate semester-end student and clinical-site evaluation data.
  • Communicate with the Clinical Education Management Department to maintain clinical facility contract updates.
  • Maintain minutes of inter-agency meetings.
  • Participate as a member of the faculty teaching team in preparing and presenting learning activities within the nursing curriculum.
  • Assist with strategic planning and assessment of instructional initiatives to ensure program quality.
  • Use teaching principles that recognize the characteristics of adult learners.
  • Improve instructional quality by reviewing and using innovative teaching methodologies and techniques.
  • Acquire and use online activities as enhancements to course content during interactive teaching and learning.
  • Ensure clinical assignments, rotation matrices, and calendars are completed one month before the next rotation begins.
  • Confirm that faculty consistently follow policies and guidelines for student clinical rotation experiences.
  • Ensure student performance in theory and clinical learning objectives and outcomes is completed and documented promptly by all faculty.
  • Provide students with ongoing communication through office hours, electronic communication, and other appropriate methods.
  • Provide feedback on clinical performance by students and faculty during facility site visits.
  • Review student learning materials and provide input for revisions at faculty and curriculum meetings, following through as indicated.
  • Oversee completion of student attendance records, skills check-off forms, and program data collection according to policy.
  • Submit required program reports and forms to the Assistant Dean, Workforce Development, in a timely manner.
  • Keep current with new technologies and safety regulations.
  • Participate in student advising activities and committee activities supporting the nursing program.
  • Attend faculty meetings or delegate attendance to faculty as indicated.
  • Develop skills laboratory and clinical-site orientation with faculty and the clinical partner.
  • Participate in planning and reviewing the recruitment and admission of qualified nursing students.
  • Advise nursing students and provide academic support as indicated.
  • Lead biweekly at-risk meetings.
  • Ensure, in collaboration with the Assistant Dean, Workforce Development, and Campus Deans, that students complete required documentation and meet graduation and state licensing-exam requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
