About the job
- At least 5 years of industry experience with surveying instruments and equipment.
- Strong technical, measurement, and calculation skills.
- Strong listening, writing, and verbal communication skills.
- Able to work outdoors year-round in all types of weather conditions and environments and carry up to 80 pounds.
- Valid driver's license and ability to meet company motor vehicle record standards, pass a clean background check, and complete drug screening.
- Set up, verify, and operate GPS, robotic total station, scanning total station, automatic and digital levels, and traditional total station (locking) equipment, including required error checks.
- Verify existing survey control and establish or re-establish control as needed.
- Collect basic topographic and as-built data.
- Perform rapid static sessions.
- Perform scans for sign confirmations and as-built documentation in areas with limited access.
- Perform layout of low-, intermediate-, and high-risk items, as applicable to the equipment and project requirements.
- Review project documents and completed layouts to support accurate fieldwork and identify potential issues.
- Collaborate with supervisors, project managers, survey team members, and clients to resolve issues and support project progression.
- Communicate findings, project updates, and potential issues clearly and promptly.
- Develop potential solutions to field and layout issues for review with the project manager.
- Transfer field data and documentation to appropriate office personnel in the required formats.
- Maintain complete and accurate field notes and project records.
- Follow established safety protocols and guidelines during fieldwork.
- Maintain accuracy and attention to detail in data collection to ensure quality survey results.
- Develop effective client communication skills to support successful project completion.
- Certified Survey Technician certification is preferred.

Peak Rock Capital has sold SAM Companies, a geospatial and inspection services provider for utilities and critical infrastructure, to New Mountain Capital. Financial terms were not disclosed. Under Peak Rock's ownership since 2021, SAM more than doubled revenue, completed 19 acquisitions, and expanded from its original footprint to add 25 offices. The company now serves 20 of the top 25 US utilities, providing end-to-end geospatial intelligence services across the critical infrastructure lifecycle. SAM, founded in 1994 and headquartered in Austin, Texas, uses advanced scientific methods to capture and analyse infrastructure data, supporting grid modernisation and AI-driven infrastructure investment. The company has developed technical and AI capabilities positioning it as an industry leader in the sector. Guggenheim Securities and Houlihan Lokey advised on the transaction.
