Requirements
  • A minimum associate’s degree in nursing is required.
  • A current license to practice nursing in the state of employment is required, where applicable.
  • Current CPR certification is required.
  • Current automobile insurance and a valid driver’s license are required.
  • The employee must maintain transportation for work use.
  • The employee must be able to operate a computer, facsimile equipment, copier, and cell phone effectively.
  • At least one year of management or supervisory experience is required.
  • Two or more years of hospice or home care experience is required if also functioning as the Clinical Nursing Supervisor for the office location.
  • The candidate must meet all state-specific requirements for the Administrator role if functioning as the Alternate or Interim Administrator.
  • The role requires knowledge of terminally ill patients and their families, the hospice concept, interdisciplinary hospice services, managed care principles, regulatory guidelines, and management principles.
  • The role requires patient assessment skills and oral and written communication skills.
Responsibilities
  • Provide strategic leadership and operational oversight for an assigned hospice location with a mid-sized census.
  • Lead the hospice program and remain accountable for clinical quality, operational performance, and sustainable census growth.
  • Apply continuous quality improvement principles and use statistical and qualitative information to manage quality.
  • Promote and monitor compliance with accrediting, licensing, regulatory, and state or federal requirements.
  • Implement policies and procedures that support service delivery.
  • Manage human resources, including employee communication, orientation, training, continuing education, selection, supervision, evaluation, assignments, workload distribution, and disciplinary actions.
  • Direct multiple teams at the assigned location, where applicable.
  • Plan and organize tasks and resources to achieve strategic goals and objectives.
  • Measure progress toward goals and take corrective action when appropriate.
  • Select outside service providers and maintain contract management for vendors in collaboration with the Administrator.
  • Assess and improve branch, department, and team performance.
  • Ensure service documentation is accurate and timely.
  • Monitor and supervise the quality of patient care at assigned locations.
  • Process emergency calls and requests for assistance and help resolve patient problems in all settings.
  • Prepare, monitor, and review monthly bills, supply costs, expense requests, mileage reimbursement, payroll, and other expenses.
  • Recommend service-area opportunities for new programs or services.
  • Ensure the accuracy of marketing and public-information materials and activities.
  • Perform routine visits to patient homes or institutional settings and participate in the on-call schedule when functioning as a Registered Nurse.
  • Investigate incidents, accidents, grievances, complaints, medication errors, and other problems; complete required reports and implement corrective or preventive action.
  • Work with physicians, patients, families, staff, and others to address problems, needs, and concerns.
  • Supervise and evaluate family satisfaction surveys.
  • Incorporate safety topics into staff meetings and review safety policies and emergency preparedness procedures.
  • Complete financial reviews and submit budget worksheets by required deadlines.
  • Manage expenditures within the annual budget, justify variances, control overtime and temporary personnel costs, and recommend resources for needed services.
Desired Qualifications
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from an accredited school of nursing is preferred.
  • A Master’s degree in business, nursing, or a related field is preferred.
  • Three years of direct patient care experience in a clinical setting is preferred.
  • Three to five years of healthcare sales or management experience is preferred.
