Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing (R.N.).
  • Current appropriate state licensure and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • Six to eight years of related experience.
  • At least three years of experience in an Ambulatory Surgical Center or Vascular Access Lab, or a combination of Ambulatory Surgical Center, surgical, Interventional Radiology, and Intensive Care Unit or Critical Care Unit experience.
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite and experience with medical database software.
  • Demonstrated management skills to provide leadership and supervision of facility personnel and ensure high-quality patient care.
  • Certified in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) or successful completion of a CPR certification course.
Responsibilities
  • Coordinate facility operations and patient procedures with the Facility Manager, facility staff, and physicians to provide quality patient care in accordance with policies, procedures, and training.
  • Provide nursing support to patients and staff, and assist with staffing, staff training, equipment, physician and patient relations, cost containment, supply management, medical records, patient billing, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) compliance, and other company, state, and federal requirements.
  • Support and drive quality standards by meeting regulatory requirements and using Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) tools.
  • Assist with implementing quality goals and developing facility-specific action plans to achieve quality standards.
  • Work with management to ensure policies and procedures are followed and patient care meets established quality goals.
  • Assist with implementing policy-compliant training and ensure ongoing compliance with risk-management initiatives.
  • Address and act on adverse events and action thresholds.
  • Communicate quality policies and procedures to facility staff and ensure they are implemented.
  • Maintain the integrity of medical, administrative, and operational records.
  • Complete required data collection and auditing activities.
  • Maintain facility environmental integrity, including safety.
  • Coordinate all aspects of patient care with appropriate staff from admission through discharge.
  • As needed, confer with patients before procedures to obtain medical history, discuss procedures, answer questions, and perform nursing assessments on the procedure date.
  • Educate patients and their families about post-procedure care of vascular access.
  • Serve as a staff resource for patient concerns and questions.
  • Ensure procedures are scheduled in a timely manner and facility capacity is used efficiently.
  • As needed, assist with patient workflow, provide direct patient care, and monitor patients before, during, and after procedures.
  • Identify and communicate patient-related issues to the Facility Manager.
  • Oversee accurate and complete documentation of patient treatments from admission through discharge.
  • Confirm written orders, consents, and lab work are completed and documented according to facility policies; prepare lab requisitions, deliver them to appropriate laboratories, and report and forward results to physicians.
  • Take primary responsibility in emergencies, maintain competency in emergency procedures, and initiate cardiopulmonary resuscitation and other emergency measures as needed.
  • Administer medications and intravenous conscious sedation as directed by physician orders and in compliance with company, federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Communicate regularly and effectively with physicians as needed.
  • Attend and participate in Governing Body meetings, assist with agendas, and gather meeting data and materials.
  • Attend and participate in CQI meetings with physicians and report on assigned topics.
  • Work with physicians and staff to ensure necessary instruments and equipment are available.
  • Ensure appropriate operation of facility equipment and technology, including patient monitors, defibrillators, medical recording devices, and computers.
  • Ensure facility equipment is inspected regularly and report malfunctions or maintenance issues immediately.
  • Inspect facility operating systems, including temperature checks in appropriate areas, and inspect the facility's physical structure.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and sanitary environment throughout the vascular access facility.
  • Address blood spills immediately according to company Bloodborne Pathogen Control Policies.
  • Participate in cost-control initiatives and ensure efficient use of medications, laboratory services, inventory, supplies, and equipment to achieve supply-cost goals while following formulary guidelines.
  • Assist with developing and revising applicable facility policies and procedures to support continuous process improvement.
  • Initiate, document, and complete ongoing CQI activities, including monthly reports, and attend required meetings.
  • Manage medications by ordering and receiving them, controlling inventory, checking expiration dates, and recording controlled substances as required by law.
  • Oversee medication usage logs and related documentation, drug-disposal records, and medication accuracy with the pharmacist, including legally required controlled-substance records.
  • Ensure medical records are accurate, complete, and policy-compliant before patient discharge, and perform regular chart audits.
  • Coordinate annual medical and competency testing for facility staff with the Facility Manager.
  • Participate in facility regulatory and accreditation surveys and implement action plans to address identified deficiencies.
  • Verify implanted-device records are completed accurately and on time and maintained according to records-management guidelines.
  • Coordinate collection and forwarding of vendor invoices to the accounting department.
  • Act as Facility Manager in the manager's absence or at management's direction.
  • Ensure nurses' progress notes are accurate and complete.
  • Act as Patient Safety Officer and conduct quarterly patient-safety meetings and fire drills.
  • Comply with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) policies and standards for patient information and medical records.
  • Travel between assigned facilities and community locations; travel to regional, Business Unit, and Corporate meetings may be required.
Desired Qualifications
  • A bachelor's degree is preferred.
  • An advanced degree is desirable.
  • Three or more years of supervisory or project/program management experience is preferred.
  • At least three years of Interventional Radiology and scrub experience is preferred.
  • Supervisory or management experience in a medical or vascular access environment is preferred.
