Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree is required.
  • At least 10 years of related experience leading large, multichannel direct response fundraising programs, including at least 4 years in senior-level program and project management or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Experience managing national direct response fundraising programs, preferably including both charitable and advocacy fundraising, with experience in market research, direct mail, street fundraising, mobile marketing, direct-response television, online prospecting and fundraising, segmentation and texting, telemarketing, legacy marketing, mid-level programs, and database marketing.
  • Experience directing and implementing strategies to meet current and long-term goals and objectives.
  • Experience collaborating effectively, with strong people-management expertise and the ability to influence and lead colleagues at all levels.
  • Experience working in a large or complex environment or with multiple clients or programs, and developing strategic working relationships.
  • Experience managing revenue and expense budgets, along with expertise in developing business cases.
  • Regular and reliable job attendance is required.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills are required.
  • Ability to demonstrate respect and understanding of others to maintain professional relationships.
  • Independent judgment in evaluating options and making sound decisions.
  • Ability to work effectively in an in-office/open-office environment with moderate noise.
Responsibilities
  • Lead the Direct Response team in developing multichannel donor acquisition, solicitation, engagement, and cultivation efforts for AARP Foundation and its affiliates, raising more than $40 million annually.
  • Develop goals, strategies, and plans for fundraising to grow a healthy donor pipeline, maximize donor support, diversify revenue streams, and expand sources of new donors.
  • Explore new channels, programs, and approaches to support future fundraising growth.
  • Manage relationships with agencies, vendors, and internal stakeholders to execute fundraising and marketing strategies.
  • Develop and implement innovative marketing and fundraising concepts, working cross-functionally and conducting cost-benefit analyses and consultant assessments as needed.
  • Manage budgets to meet strategic, income, and expense goals.
  • Define and direct the development of data analysis, testing, modeling, and channel capabilities.
  • Work across AARP Foundation and AARP to fully integrate fundraising opportunities.
  • Lead data-analysis processes that support development and tracking of donor pipelines for the organization and its affiliates.
