Requirements
  • A high school diploma and 3-5 years of experience in an electrical/mechanical, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning, building automation, or related environment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience are required.
  • The ability to read and write English and perform mathematical calculations is required.
  • Knowledge of computerized building automation controls and pneumatic building controls, along with familiarity using computers, is required.
  • A New York State driver's license is required.
  • Knowledge of applicable codes and regulations is required.
Responsibilities
  • Install, test, troubleshoot, and maintain building automation control panels, associated control equipment and systems, computerized systems, and communication systems using electrical and mechanical layouts, wiring diagrams, and verbal direction.
  • Install, test, and repair low-voltage power distribution circuits and pneumatic systems.
  • Apply knowledge of air conditioning systems, motors, motor starters, magnetic contactors, and applicable codes and standards.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on building automation control equipment.
  • Install field cabinets housing electrical, electronic, and mechanical components, computer cables, electrical circuits, thermostats, sensors, sensor wiring, steam meters, polypropylene air lines, relays, and pneumatic equipment for automation systems.
  • Inspect, test, maintain, and calibrate electrical and mechanical components and equipment, and read all meters.
  • Isolate equipment and component failures in field cabinets and control circuitry, diagnose malfunctions, and correct them using electrical or other test equipment.
  • Perform complex wiring installations and troubleshoot and repair defective sensors, air lines, terminal strips, and pneumatic switches.
  • Replace defective mechanical and electrical components, including damper motors, shear pins, switches, transformers, and sensors, according to electrical and mechanical schematic diagrams.
  • Monitor mechanical and electrical systems; modify input variables and programming syntax of established programs through computer data entry; develop equipment descriptions of operations; and maintain records of program modifications.
  • Work from blueprints, sketches, wiring diagrams, and verbal instructions.
  • Keep records and make reports of daily work.
  • Comply with University and local, state, and federal safety regulations.
  • Maintain a clean work area and keep tools and equipment in good working order.
  • Inspect, test, and maintain building automation control panels.
  • Monitor and maintain the University's main Building Automation System computerized front end, including periodic system backup and creation or modification of system graphics.
  • Perform off-site preventive maintenance and related building automation service work.
  • Maintain and update the University's central project control submittal library.
  • Assist heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration mechanics with automation-control troubleshooting through interaction with a computer, phone, or radio, and assist other trades personnel with problem solving.
  • Maintain a computerized database of critical equipment served or monitored through interface with customers and field-data verification.
  • Perform other duties requiring comparable skills and responsibilities as directed.
