McDonald's lifts dividend 4% to $7.72 a year, but 17.1x forward P/E is no bargain

McDonald's raised its quarterly dividend by 4% to $1.93 per share in September 2026, bringing the annual payout to $7.72. The increase marks 50 consecutive years of dividend growth, though it is smaller than some past rises. Second-quarter revenue rose 4% year over year to $7.10 billion, and diluted earnings per share (EPS) climbed 6% to $3.32. Global comparable sales grew just 1.3%, with 0.8% in the US. At $238.31 a share, the stock yields about 3.2%. The company generated about $7.2 billion in free cash flow in 2025, which easily covered shareholder payouts. The stock trades at about 17.1 times expected earnings, down from 23.8 in June 2025. That gives an earnings yield of about 5.9%, only slightly above the 10-year Treasury yield of 5.2% to 5.3%.

It will invest $8.5 billion by 2036 to modernise restaurants, upgrade technology, and improve operations. It targets a 50% operating margin by 2030. Its forward price-to-earnings ratio of 17 is the lowest since 2020.
