What believers are saying

  • WitnessAI raised $58 million February 9, 2026, with Sound leading the round.
  • May 2026 leadership continuity keeps Guy Oseary and Effie Epstein steering the firm.
  • Sound's concentrated bets already produced marquee positions in OpenAI, Anthropic, and World Labs.

What critics are saying

  • Ashton Kutcher left day-to-day leadership July 2026, weakening sourcing and founder access.
  • Sound's AI strategy is dangerously concentrated in a few mega-winners and late entrants.
  • If Anthropic or OpenAI softens, Sound's brand and fundraising story lose momentum.

What makes Sound Ventures unique

  • Guy Oseary and Effie Epstein pair venture selection with celebrity-driven brand-building.
  • Sound still wins access to scarce AI rounds others cannot enter.

Factory raises $200M at $5B valuation, tripling in five months

Factory, a San Francisco-based AI coding startup, has raised $200 million at a $5 billion valuation, more than tripling its worth from $1.5 billion just five months ago in April. Founded in 2023, the company builds autonomous AI agents called "Droids" that handle multi-step software engineering workflows including incident response, code refactoring, and testing. Factory's platform is model-agnostic and integrates with existing engineering tools. The company counts Nvidia, Adobe, Morgan Stanley, and Ernst & Young amongst its customers. Factory reportedly doubled its revenue each month for six consecutive months leading to its April funding round. The raise brings Factory's total funding to between $220 million and $327 million. Investors include Khosla Ventures and Blackstone. The company plans international expansion with offices in London and Tokyo. Unlike code-completion tools, Factory's agents operate autonomously with human oversight rather than direction.
