  • Graduate of nursing school.
  • At least 1 year of clinical experience; registered nurses with less than 12 months of experience must complete the new-graduate requirements.
  • California Registered Nurse license from the California Board of Registered Nursing is required.
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Professionals certification is required.
  • Independently perform the nursing process through individualized assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of safe, therapeutic, efficient care throughout the continuum of care and according to unit standards.
  • Provide safe nursing care in complex situations with some assistance and supervision; demonstrate competency in all unit skill areas and some advanced skills.
  • Use common equipment and medications safely and consult others when unfamiliar.
  • Recognize inconsistencies in patient care and manage potential complications.
  • Organize and prioritize workload consistently and manage emergency situations confidently.

Responsibilities
  • Provide direct and indirect nursing services to patients and families.
  • Use systematic planning and timely information exchange with the multidisciplinary team and patient or family to coordinate care.
  • Manage multiple patient needs and aspects of care, and communicate with the care team to plan patient care.
  • Use available resources to solve problems and determine effective actions.
  • Apply the nursing process and critical thinking to individualized, goal-directed patient care consistent with safety standards.
  • Identify actual and potential patient risks, continually evaluate care and interventions, and adjust the plan as patient and family needs change.
  • Identify and make referrals based on initial and ongoing assessments and evaluations.
  • Collaborate with patients, families, and team members to develop comprehensive plans of care; prioritize resource needs and coordinate support for individualized patient needs.
  • Guide other nurses in applying the nursing process to the unit population as a preceptor or teacher.
  • Implement safe, therapeutic, and efficient care for patients with complex needs due to multisystem disease or treatment complications, and remain accountable for patient outcomes.
  • Recognize patient diagnoses when presenting symptoms or situations differ.
  • Document care according to department or entity guidelines, policies, and procedures, and serve as a resource for unit-specific documentation issues.
  • Delegate and assign care tasks, communicate expectations, determine appropriate supervision, and follow up to ensure delegated tasks are completed.
  • Assess physician orders and question physicians when appropriate.
  • Help coworkers improve performance, provide assistance and support, give positive feedback, and provide incidental teaching to team members.
  • Provide unit-specific information to students, float staff, and traveler or registry personnel, and document it appropriately.
  • Identify and apply ways to improve work processes and systems; exchange constructive feedback in a positive, confidential, nonjudgmental manner.
  • Establish therapeutic relationships with patients and families, address barriers to communication or interaction, and adapt interventions to social and cultural needs.
  • Advocate for patients by addressing obstacles and supporting appropriate needs and preferences, including interpreting between patients and physicians when needed.
  • Provide age-appropriate education for recovery, self-care, end-of-life care, health maintenance, health promotion, and wellness.
  • Coordinate transfer and discharge planning and teaching with the healthcare team, and collaborate on developing or revising patient education materials.
  • Adapt teaching to learner needs and use adult learning principles.
  • Coordinate care delivered by other care-team members and nursing staff, and delegate assignments while communicating expectations.
  • Teach skills as needed and may teach skills competencies.
  • Assist with preceptorship and professional development of new nurses and students, and use teaching and coaching strategies to support families through disease processes.
  • Participate in quality-improvement initiatives and unit activities or committees as appropriate.
  • Promote clinical effectiveness, efficient resource use, and quality care; share knowledge and mentor others to improve clinical practice.

This prestigious designation recognizes the hospital as a leader in delivering advanced, coordinated heart care. The certification is reserved for hospitals that provide a full range of heart care services across every stage of care - from prevention and early intervention to complex procedures, recovery and long-term management. Fewer than a dozen hospitals in California - and just three dozen nationwide - have earned this designation. Donate your vintage treasures for the Hospital Auxiliary's Summer Fair fundraiser. * May 14, 2026 Updated May 14, 2026 * 0 The Sharp Coronado Hospital Auxiliary is hosting its Summer Fair on Friday, June 5, from 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. at the hospital's Sandermann Auditorium at 265 Soledad Place. At last fall's Holiday Fair, Auxiliary Volunteer Mari Gilbert introduced her fun vintage items of family heirlooms and collectibles for sale. Gilbert assured the fundraising planners, "If it's old, somebody wants it!" Purchasing "Vintage" is a current trend to recycle items instead of discarding them in landfills. And to relive a time past. Clothing, handbags, china, toys, and games all play a part. At Gilbert's booth, look for 80's to today's fashion, including denim, leather jackets, designer items, rock and roll t-shirts, and jewelry for both men and women. If you are looking for a Father's Day gift, consider a military or nautical collectible, print, or antique. What are some of the more unusual things that will be available? Check out Hotel del Coronado memorabilia from the 1930s when Gilbert's grandmother actually lived there. Coronadonewsca need donations! Given their popularity, the Auxiliary is asking for residents to consider donating items that are taking up too much room at home or in their storage units! Do you have an 80's big shoulder pad jacket hanging in your closet? Your child's old lunch box with Roy Rogers or Star Wars characters can become someone's new treasure. An evening bag, costume jewelry, old Levi's, luggage from 1950, and nearly anything military or nautical will make a perfect donation for a great cause. They will be sold at the Fair, and 100% of the proceeds will benefit the hospital. No furniture or large items can be accepted due to space constraints. Contact Gloria Aberasturi at 619-402-0402 to arrange to donate your objects no later than May 22. Additional artists and vendors will be selling their wares, including many unique handmade items. A portion of their sales will be donated to the Auxiliary, the nonprofit organization that supports the hospital's programs and projects. Home decor, handmade newborn outfits, charcuterie boards, bottle carriers, housewares, cloth carry bags, handcrafted greeting cards, jewelry, homemade jams, and hostess gifts will be for sale. Specialty Accessories, a favorite vendor, will have a large selection of clothing for sale. Pouch Leather Bags is returning with many sizes and colors. Once again, Pampered Chef will be displaying their amazing range of cooking tools. The Auxiliary's Quilt and Afghan Committee will be selling lap quilts and other handmade textile creations. Approximately 80 items are made each year and then donated to clients at the Villa or in hospice care. The Holiday and Summer Fairs are the only times they are available for sale. 100% of their sale price is donated to the Auxiliary. After you shop, please enjoy the food of the delicious Nono Jose Argentinas food truck vendor. Don't miss their wonderful empanadas! Most of the funds raised at this event will be directed to the Auxiliary's pledge in support of the Primary Stroke Center, offering expert stroke care to its community. Sharp Rees-Stealy opens 75,000 sq ft medical centre in Chula Vista with 375-space car park

PMB, a healthcare real estate developer, has completed a 75,000-square-foot medical outpatient building for Sharp Rees-Stealy in Chula Vista, California. The three-storey facility consolidates services from two existing sites, offering expanded primary, urgent, specialty and rehabilitation care. Located at Chula Vista Center Mall on H Street, the building features imaging services, laboratory facilities, a pharmacy, and multiple specialty departments including cardiology, neurology and sports medicine. A 127,000-square-foot parking structure with 375 spaces connects to the medical centre via a second-floor pedestrian bridge. The project continues PMB's partnership with Sharp HealthCare dating back to the 1970s. HGW served as architect, with Pacific Building Group as general contractor. PMB has developed over 130 healthcare facilities totalling approximately 6.5 million square feet.
