Requirements
  • A high school diploma or GED is required.
  • For assignment to a Title I school, meet the employment requirements outlined by the Every Student Succeeds Act and have either six documented semester hours of coursework in childhood education or two years of work experience in a childhood setting.
  • Demonstrate considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and Google Apps.
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of successful instructional delivery methods and the core subjects at the assigned grade level.
  • Recognize and support students with diverse backgrounds, learning abilities, and learning styles.
  • Protect the confidentiality of personally identifiable information in accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act and other applicable laws, policies, and regulations.
  • Implement academic and behavioral interventions as needed.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely in oral and written form using varied communication techniques and tools.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with school staff, students, parents, businesses, community agencies, and the public.
  • Hold and maintain Crisis Prevention and Intervention certification when required by the principal; training is provided through WCPSS.
Responsibilities
  • Provide assistance with activities and duties that implement the total school program, assist teachers with instructional activities, and help ensure an encouraging, caring, safe, and healthy environment for students.
  • Assist teachers with planning and organizing, evaluating instructional activities, developing classroom procedures, and preparing materials according to lesson-plan needs.
  • Work with individual students or specific groups of students in different classrooms or school areas as needed.
  • Participate in the district staff development program and continued professional growth in the assigned area.
  • Maintain a positive disposition, exercise good judgment, and remain calm when dealing with students.
  • Perform vision and hearing screenings when assigned, and enter results into the Electronic Access Student Information System.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Work in a classroom environment involving sitting and standing, use standard office equipment, and handle the stated physical demands of the position.
