AFRY awarded engineering assignment for Swissgrid transmission project in Switzerland.

AFRY awarded engineering assignment for Swissgrid transmission project in Switzerland. Wed, 14/10/2026 - 07:50 CEST AFRY has been selected by Swissgrid to provide multidisciplinary engineering services for three substations and associated infrastructure in the Innertkirchen-Ulrichen transmission project. The project will strengthen Switzerland's high-voltage network, support future electricity transmission needs and help transport increasing volumes of renewable electricity from southern Switzerland to other parts of the country. The 27-kilometre transmission line between Innertkirchen and Ulrichen, which is more than 60 years old, will be renewed and prepared for a future upgrade from 220 kV to 380 kV. The upgrade will increase transmission capacity, support future electricity demand and help ensure the reliable transmission of increasing electricity generation from southern Switzerland to other parts of the country. Approximately 23 kilometres of the route between Innertkirchen and Oberwald will be constructed as underground cable connections. AFRY will provide engineering services for three substations along the transmission corridor between Innertkirchen and Ulrichen. This scope includes the planning of the new Oberwald substation as well as extensions to the existing Innertkirchen and Handeck substations. In addition, AFRY is providing engineering services for civil works, building infrastructure and a microtunnel associated with the cable transition structure connecting to the Oberwald substation. The project will be delivered using Building Information Modelling (BIM), supporting Swissgrid's ambition to establish BIM as a standard methodology for grid projects by 2027. "We are proud to support Swissgrid in this strategically important infrastructure project. Modern and reliable transmission networks are critical to meeting future electricity demand and integrating more renewable energy. Through this assignment, AFRY is helping to strengthen the foundation of Switzerland's future energy system," said Fredrik Persson, VP and Head of Segment Transmission and Distribution at AFRY. AFRY has worked with Swissgrid since its foundation in 2006 and has successfully delivered numerous substation and transmission line projects across Switzerland. The multidisciplinary nature of the Innertkirchen-Ulrichen project builds on AFRY's extensive experience in transmission infrastructure and complex grid development projects. AFRY provides engineering, project management, and advisory services that enable the energy and industrial transition and strengthen resilience in society. With 18,000 experts worldwide, Afry Ab combine a global reach with local insights and deep sector knowledge to make a lasting impact for generations to come. AFRY appoints Stefan Cartling to advance resilient data center development.

AFRY appoints Stefan Cartling to advance resilient data center development. 15/09/2026 AFRY has appointed Stefan Cartling as Head of Data Centers to bring together the expertise clients need to address these interconnected challenges throughout the project lifecycle. As demand for data centers grows, decisions made at the start of a project increasingly determine its long-term viability and impact: where power is available, how grid connection and permitting can be secured, and how facilities can be designed to operate reliably while using energy, water and other resources efficiently. AFRY has long supported data center clients from strategy, market assessment and site selection through power studies, permitting, design and engineering, project management and operations. This integrated perspective matters because data center projects often involve dependencies that are easy to underestimate at the start. A site may appear promising before the power situation is clear, or a design choice may create permitting or delivery challenges later. AFRY helps clients identify these links across disciplines, so key risks and trade-offs are visible before the project moves too far ahead. AFRY helps clients identify these links across disciplines, so key risks and trade-offs are visible before the project moves too far ahead. "Clients are no longer only asking how to design a data center. They are asking how power is available, how permits can be secured, how the grid connection will work, and how the facility can remain efficient and resilient over time. These questions need to be clarified together before they become constraints later in the project." Stefan Cartling, Head of Data Centers at AFRY Experience where complexity matters. Stefan brings long experience from AFRY, combined with a strong track record from complex buildings, infrastructure and data center projects, including assignments for Microsoft, Amazon AWS, Northvolt, Ericsson, RED and other clients. His background spans data center design, high-voltage systems, R&D facilities and infrastructure development - areas that are often central when data center projects move from ambition to delivery. Clarity before commitments are locked in. Whether entering a new market, evaluating a site, planning an expansion or improving an existing facility, data center clients need a clear view of what is feasible before critical choices are made. For clients, the value lies in reducing surprises from ambition, through approval, design and delivery, while improving the facility's long-term resilience, efficiency and environmental performance. In his new role, Stefan will connect AFRY's expertise across energy-market analysis, power systems, architecture and engineering, environmental services, project management and advisory. This integrated approach will help clients move from early commercial and technical analysis to implementation and operation with clearer decisions and better-informed trade-offs. Contact Afry Ab. LCP Delta welcomes Alex Blanckley as leader for Irish power markets.

LCP Delta welcomes Alex Blanckley as leader for Irish power markets. 09 September 2026 Consultancy.uk LCP Delta has appointed Alex Blanckley as head of Irish power markets. As the company continues to grow in Ireland and across Europe, Blanckley will help clients with the key challenges they face amid the energy transition. Rajiv Gogna, head of LCP Delta, said, "Alex is a deep expert in the Irish power market and has worked with many different types of organisations and operators, helping them to navigate the energy transition. This represents another step in its growth across European markets, where The Consultancy Company now support clients across a dozen countries. According to Gogna, while LCP Delta has supported clients in the Irish market for a number of years, the challenges the market is now facing, "particularly in light of data centre build out," means it is having to step up its commitment. Blanckley's appointment comes at a pivotal time for the Irish electricity market, to that end. As Ireland is targeting 80% renewable electricity by 2030, major investment in grid infrastructure and recent reforms to the energy storage market are creating new opportunities and challenges for utilities, developers and investors. However, with the power-hungry rollout of data centres across the country, demand for energy is on the rise - providing a new set of challenges to contend with on the road to net zero. Prior to joining LCP Delta, Blanckley was a senior principal in AFRY's Irish power market team, advising a range of clients with interests in the energy transition, including utilities, developers, network operators and infrastructure investors. Earlier, he also worked in equity research and investment. Looking ahead, as head of Irish power markets, he will work in the newly created role to support LCP Delta's continued growth in Ireland and across Europe. Blanckley commented, "Electricity demand has been growing, driven by increased data centre consumption, and is expected to growth further driven by data centres, EVs and heat pumps. This growth requires additional generation capacity, with significant volumes of new peakers, batteries and renewables being contracted and built. It will also require a transformation of demand-side flexibility across the residential, commercial and industrial sectors."
