About the Job

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree or above in international trade, law, compliance, public policy, engineering, or a related field.
  • Extensive experience in export controls, trade compliance, compliance operations, due diligence, or related regulatory compliance work.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. export control laws and regulations, including the Export Administration Regulations, restricted party screening, licensing fundamentals, and export compliance governance.
  • Experience building, implementing, or enhancing compliance programs and operational controls in a multinational or cross-border business environment.
  • Experience managing core compliance processes, including screening, end-user due diligence, recordkeeping, training, monitoring, escalations, and audit support.
  • Ability to assess export control and counterparty risk across cross-border activities, including onboarding, end-use review, ownership diligence, and red flag analysis.
  • Strong communication, judgment, and cross-functional collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across legal, business, and technical teams in different time zones.

Responsibilities

  • Support the build-up, implementation, and continuous enhancement of ByteDance and TikTok's export control and trade compliance program, including policies, procedures, governance processes, controls, and internal guidance; drive program maturity assessments, maintain a risk-based policy framework addressing the Export Administration Regulations and applicable non-U.S. regimes, and translate regulatory developments into updated internal processes, training, and operational guidance.
  • Design and manage core compliance operations including restricted party screening, end-user due diligence, recordkeeping, training, monitoring, and audit readiness; maintain screening and match-review workflows and sustain an escalation and case management process that produces defensible audit trails.
  • Develop and maintain compliance processes for cross-border business activities, technology transfers, customer and vendor onboarding, cloud and infrastructure-as-a-service access, and advanced computing infrastructure; build transaction review workflows that identify license requirements and exceptions under the Export Administration Regulations, assess counterparty risk factors including ownership, jurisdiction, and end-use concerns, and maintain documentation standards that would withstand regulatory scrutiny.
  • Partner with legal, business, product, engineering, infrastructure, procurement, logistics, supply chain, human resources, and operations teams to embed export control requirements into relevant workflows; participate in product and feature reviews to surface export control implications early and serve as a practical, solutions-oriented resource for business stakeholders.
  • Assess and manage export control risks across the supply chain, including component-level Export Control Classification Number classification, Foreign Direct Product rules, and vendor compliance obligations; integrate screening and classification checkpoints into procurement and onboarding workflows and maintain visibility into supply chain dependencies that may trigger Export Administration Regulations or sanctions restrictions.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience supporting compliance matters involving advanced computing, artificial intelligence, software, cloud or infrastructure-as-a-service, infrastructure services, semiconductors, logistics, or supply chain operations.
  • Experience scaling compliance processes in a fast-growing or evolving regulatory environment.
  • Familiarity with export control risks involving technology transfers, cloud or application programming interface access, and infrastructure-enabled services.
  • Experience with screening tools, workflow systems, case management, or process improvement initiatives.
  • Familiarity with trade compliance developments across the United States, United Kingdom, European Union, Singapore, or other relevant jurisdictions.
