Requirements
  • A Bachelor of Arts degree or higher in a relevant field such as Linguistics, Translation/Interpretation, Foreign Languages, Legal Studies, or a related discipline.
  • At least 5 years of professional experience providing language services.
  • Prior on-site interpretation experience in high-stakes, confidential, and sensitive environments.
  • Native or near-native proficiency in Arabic and English, with strong command of legal terminology in both languages.
  • Arizona court certification as an interpreter and/or completion of an accepted professional court or legal interpretation qualification, including the Court Professional Certificate Program, at least 45 hours of formal legal services training, the National Association of Judiciary Interpreters and Translators examination, the Federal Court Interpreting Exam, relevant seminar or conference testing, or qualification with the International Association of Conference Interpreters or a comparable organization.
  • Must be able to pass a background check and any additional checks required by projects or clients.
  • Problem-solving skills.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to respond effectively to customers with urgency.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft and Adobe toolsets, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Acrobat.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to be on-call and travel to different locations for in-person interpretation.
  • Ability to perform duties for extended periods and sit for long periods while looking at a computer screen.
  • Ability to use computers and office productivity tools with sufficient speed.
  • Ability to establish a productive and professional workspace.
  • Availability for flexible schedules, holidays, and hours outside normal business hours when required.
Responsibilities
  • Provide in-person, consecutive and/or simultaneous Arabic-English interpretation for Arizona courts and related justice system entities.
  • Interpret accurately, completely, and impartially in legal settings including civil, criminal, family, and juvenile court hearings; pretrial conferences and hearings; probation hearings and meetings; sentencing hearings; jail and detention center visits; forensic interviews; and other court-related proceedings.
  • Follow ethical standards and professional codes of conduct for court interpreters, including confidentiality, impartiality, and professionalism.
  • Prepare for assignments by reviewing case-related materials and terminology when provided.
  • Communicate with Cayuse coordinators and court personnel regarding assignment logistics, arrival times, and status updates.
  • Convey complex legal terminology, procedural language, and specialized vocabulary accurately to non-English-speaking participants.
  • Comply with Arizona court policies, rules, and guidelines for interpreter services.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • Court or judiciary interpreting experience.
  • Legal services interpretation experience, such as work with law offices, legal aid organizations, public defender offices, or prosecutor offices.
