Requirements
  • Practice within the guidelines of the applicable state licensing board, American Psychological Association Ethical Principles and Code of Conduct, and MTF privileges.
  • Conduct psychological evaluations using clinical interviews, psychological testing, and collateral sources as appropriate.
  • Establish psychiatric diagnoses according to the American Psychiatric Association Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Disorders.
  • Hold a Doctor of Philosophy or Psy.D. degree in clinical or counseling psychology from an APA-accredited psychology program.
  • Complete an APA-accredited internship or residency in professional psychology.
  • Possess at least one year of full-time experience within the last three years working with a patient population with post-traumatic stress disorder.
  • Maintain an active, valid, unrestricted license to practice psychology in one of the 50 states, District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, or the U.S. Virgin Islands.
  • Hold Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross; online classes are not accepted by the Government.
  • Be a U.S. citizen.
  • Provide three letters of recommendation from practicing physicians or peers attesting to clinical skills, written within the preceding two years and containing the specified identifying and signature details.
Responsibilities
  • Provide psychological treatment for individuals and groups and help medical and surgical patients deal with illnesses or injuries.
  • Assist in the rehabilitation of patients.
  • Participate in outreach and marketing for the Pre- and Post-Deployment Health Reassessment program and its services.
  • Liaise with Line Commanders, screen patients, provide treatment when appropriate, educate returning units about service availability, and coordinate follow-on care.
  • Communicate with Line Commanders about Deployment Health Clinic benefits, service eligibility, and initiation of the screening process at the clinic and in the field with Line units.
  • Provide deployment health screening services to service members individually or in groups at the clinic or Line unit as necessary.
  • Use the Navy Environmental Health Center electronic methods for completing Department of Defense forms, including Standard Form 600 for medical encounters and Standard Form 513 for consultations.
  • Provide care for eligible patients resulting from Deployment Health Clinical Center screening in accordance with its guidelines, emphasizing treatment of post-traumatic stress disorders and other combat-related psychological symptoms.
  • Include deployment-related family member care in active-duty members’ scheduled sessions when applicable.
  • Provide educational sessions and briefings for returning units on deployment-related illnesses and conditions and readjustment after deployment.
