Novaspace to organise Space Summit for a Resilient Future in Toulouse. The Summit will bring together 500+ leaders to explore how space capabilities can strengthen societal and infrastructure resilience. Space industry leaders, government officials and representatives from critical infrastructure sectors will gather in Toulouse on October 2728, 2026, for the inaugural Space Summit for a Resilient Future (SSRF), focused on the role of space technologies in strengthening the resilience of infrastructure and societies. Organised by Novaspace with support from the Occitanie Region, the summit will bring together more than 500 senior decision-makers from the space sector, government, civil protection, energy, transport and insurance. The event comes as geopolitical tensions, climate-related disasters and increasing pressure on critical infrastructure create new challenges for governments, businesses and communities. Occitanie is a major European space hub, accounting for more than 40% of Frances space workforce and around one-third of Europes space-related employment. Toulouse is home to organisations including the CNES Space Centre, Airbus Defence and Space and Thales Alenia Space, as well as a growing ecosystem of space start-ups. The city also hosts the French Space Command and NATOs Space Centre of Excellence. SSRF will examine how satellite imagery, connectivity, navigation and other space-enabled capabilities can support resilience on Earth. Discussions will focus on disaster and crisis management, energy security, resilient mobility and infrastructure, territorial resilience and the use of space technologies to anticipate crises, support emergency response and accelerate recovery. The programme will feature senior representatives from organisations including CNES, Airbus Defence and Space, Frances Civil Security and Crisis Management Directorate, the French Red Cross, the International Energy Agency, ENTSO-E, TotalEnergies and Iberdrola. The summit aims to bring together end users, governments, space agencies, infrastructure operators and technology providers to identify space-based solutions already in operation, assess remaining technology and deployment gaps and explore areas requiring greater cooperation and investment. Pacôme Révillon, CEO of Novaspace, said: "Space capabilities are already essential to the functioning of our societies, from connectivity and navigation to Earth observation and access to information. As crises become more frequent and complex, the challenge is to better connect these capabilities with the operational needs of those responsible for the resilience of our territories and infrastructure. This is precisely the purpose of SSRF: to create a dialogue between the space sector and its users, and to help turn that dialogue into concrete solutions and new forms of cooperation." Carole Delga, President of the Occitanie Region, added: "Occitanie, and Toulouse in particular, holds a leading position in Europes space sector, with more than 14,000 employees and one-third of the European space workforce. For the past ten years, the Region has supported the sectors development and helped sustain its leadership. At a time when France has experienced an unprecedented period of wildfires and drought, this Summit will contribute to building a more resilient space sector, better equipped to anticipate the challenges ahead." The two-day event is intended to establish an international platform connecting space innovation with resilience priorities across governments, economies and societies.
LMT Group and Novaspace partner to develop strategy for 5G/6G satellite communications hub in Latvia. Sep 23, 2026 During the international Industry Space Days 2026 event at the European Space Agency's ESTEC facility in Noordwijk, the Netherlands, the Latvian Mobile Telephone (LMT) Group and the globally leading space consultancy Novaspace signed a cooperation agreement on the development of a concept for telecommunications innovation platform for Latvia to link the national connectivity sector with the international satellite industry. The initiative follows the successful ESA 5G/6G Non-Terrestrial Network Hub model and will explore Latvia's potential role within this network. Signing the agreement marks a pivotal step toward creating a hub for developing an internationally competitive telecommunications sector in Latvia. The hub will strategically bring LMT into the space industry and impact the emergence of a wider Latvia's space innovation ecosystem in next-generation satellite technologies, products, and services tailored to commercial applications, resilient critical infrastructure, security, digitalization and green transition. Essentially, the hub will attract national and international cooperation, funding and talent. The next generation of mobile communications is closely linked to the rapid growth of the space economy globally. The space infrastructure is already gradually enhancing terrestrial networks, and the 6G era of telecommunications will seamlessly link terrestrial and non-terrestrial networks. The rationale for such development is efficient and resilient connectivity, especially essential in scenarios involving severe weather, power outages or physical infrastructure disruptions. This initiative builds upon LMT Group's strategic expansion of its track record in connectivity innovation. LMT is already collaborating with ESA and satellite operator Sateliot to pioneer energy efficient dual-mode satellite Internet of Things (IoT) connectivity, enabled by Latvia's associate membership in ESA. The hardware and software to be developed will cover the current market gap in devices that can seamlessly switch between terrestrial and satellite networks. The planned 5G/6G NTN hub is a natural next step in scaling LMT's technological footprint within Europe's space ecosystem. "LMT has long evolved beyond traditional mobile operations into a full-scale technology innovator. As we prepare for the 6G era, integrating satellite communications into our infrastructure and service portfolio is essential. Our goal is to ensure resilient, secure communications for new commercial services and for critical infrastructure under any circumstances, to produce exportable space technologies and develop services that contribute to digitalization and green transition. Partnering with Novaspace will allow us to define Latvia's unique value proposition within the European space ecosystem and expand local high-tech expertise," Ingmārs Pūķis, VP & Member of the Management Board at LMT. The agreement was signed under the EU-funded FIERCE Ecosystem Building Programme, in which LMT participates as an innovation intermediary and Novaspace provides strategic support and space-market expertise. Through the programme, Novaspace will work directly with LMT to define and validate the concept, guiding LMT towards a Latvian 5G/6G terrestrial and non-terrestrial network (TN/NTN) hub. The joint effort will focus on identifying Latvia's distinctive regional value proposition and connecting the future hub with the wider European 5G/6G and NTN ecosystem, rather than replicating existing European initiatives. "At Novaspace, we are delighted to partner with LMT Group through the FIERCE project. The strength of Europe's space sector depends on active participation across all Member States, and Latvia is well positioned both to benefit from and contribute to Europe's growing space economy. Flagship European programmes such as Copernicus, Galileo, EGNOS and IRIS[2] are creating new opportunities for innovation, resilient connectivity and commercial growth. Drawing on Novaspace's global market expertise, we look forward to supporting LMT in defining a distinctive role for Latvia within Europe's 5G/6G and non-terrestrial network ecosystem," Gabrielle Brophy, Senior Manager at Novaspace. The planned hub will be developed together with research and industry partners in the region. This collaborative framework will help retain and grow specialized engineering and scientific competencies in the Baltic region. The signing ceremony in Noordwijk was attended by representatives of the European Space Agency, Novaspace, the Latvian embassy in the Netherlands, the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Latvia, the Investment and Development Agency of Latvia, Novaspace in representation of the FIERCE project and LMT.
Space-based ISR launches to grow fourfold in next decade, Novaspace says. Sep 15, 2026, 03:16 AM PARIS - The number of satellites launched to provide militaries and defense departments with intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance data from space is expected to increase more than fourfold in the next decade, industry consultancy Novaspace said. Defense-owned satellites for ISR will drive the future market in the segment, with 2,306 launched into orbit in the 2026-2035 period, from 485 launched in the decade through to 2025, according to data presented by Novaspace Chief Executive Officer Pacôme Révillon at the Space Defense and Security Summit here on Tuesday. The war in Ukraine has underscored the importance of space-based intelligence on the battlefield, while a brief halt of data sharing by the United States in March 2025 showed the need for governments to have assured access to space-based intel. That in turn has been a boon to commercial providers of ISR satellites, such as Finland's ICEYE. Secretary of the Air Force Troy Meink revealed that the service deployed on-orbit space control weapons but did not offer details on the type of weapon. ISR "is obviously a key priority currently for most nations," Révillon said. "It's clearly a world that was already largely transparent, but the direction is as much for a diversification of assets for real-time and persistent intelligence." Most of the defense ISR satellites launched in the coming decade will be for constellations rather than individual satellites, according to Novaspace. Government budgets for space defense are forecast to climb to $121 billion in 2028 from $74 billion last year, according to Novaspace, which said at least 55 countries have space defense budgets. Government budgets for space defense amounted to $53 billion in 2022, based on the consultancy's data. Novaspace expects the number of operational systems in space may jump as much as fivefold to between 50,000 and 100,000 in 2036 from 18,000 satellites in 2026, increasing the need to keep track of them all. More than 400 satellites for space situational awareness, or SSA, will be launched in 2025-2034, according to Novaspace. Global spending on SSA is forecast to amount to $61 billion over the period, with defense programs accounting for the bulk of that, at $52 billion. Centre for Space Futures, Novaspace and SpaceTech Gulf sign agreement to develop Global Space Capability Mapping dashboard. Riyadh, Saudi Arabia - June, 2026 The Centre for Space Futures (CSF), together with leading international partners including Novaspace, and SpaceTech Gulf, have signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) to jointly develop a Global Space Capability Mapping and Index Dashboard. The agreement marks the start of a collaborative effort to build a data-driven platform that maps global space capabilities and makes them more accessible and actionable for decision-makers worldwide. The initiative is designed to address a critical gap in the space ecosystem: limited visibility into who holds which capabilities, and how those capabilities can be applied to solve real-world challenges. At its core, the dashboard will provide a structured view of global space capabilities across key domains. By leveraging open-source data, advanced methodologies, and partner expertise, the platform aims to become a trusted reference point for policymakers, industry leaders, and researchers. Beyond mapping, the initiative is intended to enable practical application. Countries or organizations facing challenges, such as agricultural disease monitoring, climate risks, or infrastructure resilience, will be able to identify where relevant space-enabled capabilities exist, understand how similar problems have been addressed, and connect with the right partners to implement solutions. "This initiative is about turning capability into impact," said Eng. Mishaal Ashemimry, Managing Director of CSF. "We are building a tool that helps decision-makers move from identifying a challenge to finding a proven solution and the right partner to deliver it." "Understanding and benchmarking national space capabilities is becoming increasingly important for governments, investors, and industry stakeholders navigating a rapidly evolving space economy," said Carla Filotico, Partner & Managing Director at Novaspace. "This collaboration brings together complementary expertise to develop a trusted framework that will help stakeholders better understand space ecosystems and support informed decision-making." As space technologies become increasingly relevant to addressing global challenges, many potential users still lack clear pathways to access and apply them. This collaboration aims to bridge that gap by making capabilities more visible, comparable, and usable. The initiative will also produce periodic insights and reports, contributing to a deeper understanding of global space capabilities, emerging applications, and opportunities for international collaboration. The MoC establishes a framework for joint work over the coming years, reinforcing international cooperation and supporting the development of a more connected and solution-oriented global space ecosystem.
