From customer operations to engineering, we develop an ecosystem of automation products that empower our colleagues and drive impact. By creating reusable solutions, we create patterns that can be applied across diverse domains within OpenAI.

TLDR: this team leverages OpenAI technology to improve OpenAI, and you’ll have the opportunity to leverage the full extent of our tech (both public and pre-released) to accomplish this mission.

About the Role

We’re seeking our first Engineering Manager, Support Automation who’s excited about leading a team to create intuitive, impactful, and innovative user experiences. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a hands-on, dynamic environment, driving both the team’s vision and technical execution. You will be the founding leader of this organization, and therefore will have the opportunity to shape the craft of this team in one of the most innovative companies in the world. You'll mentor a talented team of engineers, oversee project planning, and ensure delivery of high-quality interfaces that push the limits of what's possible with AI. If you’re passionate about blending leadership with deep technical expertise, this role could be a great fit.

In this role, you will:

• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of engineers to build impactful products with a focus on performance, scalability, and delight.

• Oversee the end-to-end product lifecycle from ideation and rapid prototyping through to production-ready deployment.

• Collaborate closely with product, design, and cross-functional partners to align on vision, priorities, and execution.

• Facilitate technical planning, code reviews, and ensure high-quality code and UI standards across projects.

• Balance the needs of rapid iteration with the implementation of sustainable, maintainable solutions.

You might thrive in this role if you:

• Have 7+ years of engineering experience, with at least 5 years in a people management role within a tech or product-focused organization.

• Are highly proficient in modern front-end technologies like TypeScript, React, and related web standards, and are skilled in using design tools such as Figma.

• Enjoy the challenge of transforming conceptual ideas into production-ready products, with a deep appreciation for design and user experience.

• Bring a startup mindset, excelling in fast-paced environments where priorities and objectives can shift. You will be hands on AND leading - the details will matter

• Are passionate about applying AI to solve real-world problems and creating interfaces that delight users.

• Excel in fostering a culture of collaboration, ownership, and continuous improvement.
