Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • A valid motor vehicle operator’s license and a Department of Transportation medical card, if applicable based on assigned vehicle weight, are required.
  • At least one year of locksmith experience or a related skill set is required.
  • Experience with the function and repair of locks, cylinders, doors, and hardware is required.
  • Experience with shimming and planing doors is required.
  • Carpentry experience is required.
  • Knowledge of applicable codes and ordinances is required.
  • Knowledge of the methods, tools, and hazards of the trade is required.
  • The ability to inspect equipment, determine malfunctions, and make necessary repairs is required.
  • Knowledge of and ability to use computers, tablets, smartphones, and software systems to perform work duties is required.
  • Sufficient strength and physical dexterity to perform the duties and responsibilities of the job, including heavy work and prolonged exposure to inclement weather, are required.
  • The ability to wear and use appropriate personal protective equipment as necessary is required.
  • Solid verbal and written interpersonal and communication skills are required to communicate effectively with customers, team members, contractors, and supervisors.
Responsibilities
  • Learn and perform mechanical and commercial locksmithing.
  • Perform key cutting and work with key systems.
  • Perform master keying.
  • Install, repair, and troubleshoot locks.
  • Install and adjust door hardware.
  • Work with exit devices and panic hardware.
  • Work with electronic and electrified locking hardware.
  • Apply access control fundamentals.
  • Follow fire door and code compliance requirements.
  • Use safe and professional lock-opening techniques.
  • Inspect equipment, determine malfunctions, and make necessary repairs.
  • Communicate with customers, team members, contractors, and supervisors.
