About the Job

Requirements

  • Extensive experience in imaging optics, ideally including cameras, space telescopes, and other imaging systems, across the full product lifecycle from concept and design through manufacturing, quality control, assembly, alignment, and qualification.
  • Knowledge of optical system design together with the detector side of the system, including focal plane and detector assemblies.
  • Experience working as an imaging systems architect, with familiarity with trade-offs and typical architectures for imaging systems.
  • Ability to assess designs and requirements and own technical trade-offs for the system, focusing on current and future designs.
  • Strong mentoring skills and comfort working with a group of engineers on a daily basis.
  • A degree in optical engineering, applied physics, or a related field, with 10+ years of relevant experience.

Responsibilities

  • Steer the architecture and technical direction of the team's imaging systems as a senior team member, remaining involved from initial concept through manufacturing, assembly, alignment, and qualification.
  • Shape imaging systems end to end by connecting optical design decisions with detector-side elements such as focal plane assembly, and applying experience with large optics to current and future instrument generations.
  • Mentor engineers across the team day to day, sharing optical judgment and system-level thinking to enable the group to undertake larger and more demanding designs.

Desired Qualifications

  • Knowledge of satellite systems and integration of the optical payload with satellite platforms.

About the Company

ICEYE

SAR satellite constellation for Earth monitoring

ICEYE builds and operates the world’s largest synthetic aperture radar (SAR) satellite constellation to monitor the Earth continuously, day or night and in any weather. Its SAR satellites capture radar imagery that can see through clouds and darkness, giving customers in defence and intelligence, insurance, emergency management, and environmental monitoring a persistent view of wide areas. Images and analytics are delivered from a network of satellites and, increasingly, sovereign constellations that governments can operate themselves. ICEYE plans to scale up production toward about 100 satellites per year by 2028 and has pursued large funding rounds to expand capacity and sovereign delivery, aiming to grow its revenue and backlog while offering reliable, near-real-time Earth observation data.
