About the job

Requirements
  • At least 3 years of systems-level Rust experience, including building production-grade Rust libraries or systems, async programming, and reliable high-performance concurrent software.
  • Experience building robust decentralized data synchronization systems using content addressing, data deduplication, Merkle trees, probabilistic data structures, and state-based or delta-state conflict-free replicated data types across heterogeneous peers.
  • Ability to identify and instrument metrics, logs, and traces to visualize data propagation through a mesh, diagnose production issues, and improve bandwidth utilization, reliability, and self-healing behavior.
  • Ability to explain complex systems decisions clearly to engineers and non-technical stakeholders through written design documents, RFCs, and code reviews.
  • Willingness to engage directly with customers, debug production issues on their devices, and translate field experience into engineering improvements.
Responsibilities
  • Design and build mission-critical replication protocols that enable high-performance, self-healing, and reliable data synchronization across heterogeneous peers and challenging network environments.
  • Define metrics, logs, and traces to understand how data propagates through the mesh, troubleshoot production issues, and guide improvements to system resiliency and recovery.
  • Optimize bandwidth utilization, data transfer, storage, and low-level input/output across supported platforms while maintaining high concurrency and reliability.
  • Apply content addressing, deduplication, Merkle trees, probabilistic data structures, and conflict-free replicated data types to evolve the replication platform and support new product capabilities.
  • Drive projects from technical design through delivery, author RFCs, improve developer experience, advise API and product teams, and collaborate directly with customers and cross-functional partners.
Desired Qualifications
  • Familiarity with conflict-free replicated data types, distributed systems, or offline-first data synchronization.
  • Experience building software for or integrating with embedded databases or data synchronization platforms.
  • Basic networking knowledge, including IPv4, TCP, UDP, Bluetooth Low Energy, and mesh networking concepts.
  • Experience with lightweight verification techniques such as property-based testing and model checking.
  • A track record of open-source contributions in relevant ecosystems.
  • Experience building or architecting offline-first systems.

About the company

Ditto.live provides an Edge Sync Platform that helps developers build native apps for iOS, macOS, Android, and web with efficient data synchronization across devices and cloud. How it works: developers write code once and deploy to multiple platforms; the platform handles data syncing across edge devices and cloud, supports offline use, and enables peer-to-peer authentication and smooth cross-device experiences. How it differs: it targets distributed data across many devices rather than a single database, emphasizes offline and edge syncing, and focuses on a unified cross-platform deployment to reduce development time. The goal: simplify data handling and synchronization so apps can run consistently on multiple devices and platforms, delivering interconnected, responsive user experiences.
