  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program and/or equivalent relevant experience, as required by applicable state regulations.
  • Six months of experience working within a physician’s office is desired; urology experience is desired.
  • Minimal travel is required.
  • Ability to meet the stated physical demands for carrying, pushing, pulling, and lifting.
Responsibilities
  • Perform administrative and clinical duties under the direction of the assigned direct supervisor.
  • Confer with physicians, nursing staff, and other staff members to coordinate and schedule patient appointments.
  • Greet and prepare patients.
  • Measure and record vital signs.
  • Record patient interviews, histories, and chief complaints.
  • Provide patient education regarding medications, disease management, home treatments, and special diets.
  • Prepare patients for examinations and perform routine screening tests.
  • Assist physicians with examinations.
  • Perform phlebotomy and collect other laboratory specimens; perform basic laboratory tests.
  • Perform electrocardiograms (EKGs) after required training.
  • Assist with X-ray and physician therapy procedures.
  • Prepare and administer medications with physician authorization.
  • Change dressings, apply bandages, remove sutures, and perform other first-aid procedures.
  • Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) when necessary if BLS certified.
  • Prepare accurate, legal, and ethical documentation.
  • Open the office in the morning and close it in the afternoon.
  • Maintain patient logs for laboratory requests, computed tomography scans, and other treatment orders.
  • Maintain the prescription ledger when needed.
  • Maintain back-office workflow, keep rooms full, and assist with room turnover.
  • Complete new-patient workups, including X-rays, vital signs, and explanation of the new-patient packet.
  • Add medical history for new patients and accurately update the histories of established patients.
  • Complete accurate room setup for physicians.
  • Ensure each patient’s medication list is updated before the physician visit.
  • Set up in-office surgical procedures.
  • Ensure consent forms are completed correctly and avoid excessive medical abbreviations in consent forms.
  • Scribe as assigned according to physician-office workflow.
  • Prepare for the next day’s patients, including confirming next-day visits.
  • Complete patient medical-record requests when necessary.
  • Assist with orientation and training of new personnel.
  • Ensure proper handoff of responsibilities when tasks are completed.
  • Meet attendance criteria, start work promptly, and remain punctual and dependable for assigned or confirmed shifts.
  • Demonstrate respect for the organization’s commitment to cultural diversity through behavior, language, and actions.
  • Use time and resources consistently well.
  • Ensure that all patient medical records are accurate and complete.
  • Adhere to and support compliance and accreditation efforts as assigned, including Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), HIPAA, and Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) guidelines for Parts C and D on general compliance and fraud, waste, and abuse.
  • Perform other position-related duties as assigned.
  • Comply with applicable laws and regulations and the Solaris Health Code of Conduct and affiliated-practice policies and procedures.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of patients’ protected health information in compliance with HIPAA.
  • Immediately report suspected concerns or violations to a supervisor or the Compliance Department.
  • Complete annual compliance training on time.
