  • A B.S. or advanced degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or another relevant scientific discipline.
  • At least five years of experience in Analytical and Process Development, preferably focused on mRNA and/or LNP technology.
  • Working knowledge of common mRNA/LNP analytical methods, including plate-based assays, PCR, UPLC/HPLC, light scattering, and/or capillary gel electrophoresis.
  • Experience in analytical method development.
  • Experience with enzymatic and chemical reactions, PCR, plasmid processing, and standard analytical techniques for biologics or nucleic acid therapies.
  • Ability to conduct laboratory experiments and review and write documentation, with flexibility to work on multiple projects as needed.
  • Ability to work with process development and/or regulatory aspects of mRNA-lipid nanoparticle products is a plus.
  • Ability to adapt to change and work in a dynamic, entrepreneurial early-stage environment.
  • Ability to work independently and demonstrate problem-solving ability.
Responsibilities
  • Lead development of analytical methods or novel analytical techniques focused on deep physical characterization of early- and clinical-stage mRNA and LNP formulations.
  • Analyze data and draw conclusions that drive screening, optimization, and scale-up efforts in mRNA and LNP Process Development.
  • Apply a strong understanding of mRNA and LNP analytical methods to support identification and characterization of critical process parameters and critical material attributes.
  • Independently troubleshoot experimental and process challenges using a systematic, data-driven approach.
  • Partner with Process Development, Manufacturing, MSAT, Quality, and other CMC functions to support process development and characterization activities.
  • Evaluate and onboard innovative analytical tools to further RNA/LNP understanding.
  • Interface with external contract research organizations to ensure compliance with internal timeline and quality requirements.
  • Mentor and develop junior scientists in exploring new analytical techniques to further characterize mRNA/LNP therapeutics.
  • Maintain electronic notebook records and author protocols.
Desired Qualifications
  • Familiarity with advanced analytical technologies, LC-MS, in-line monitoring, automation, digital process development, and/or advanced data analysis techniques.
  • Understanding of process development and/or regulatory aspects of mRNA-lipid nanoparticle products.

About the company

Strand Therapeutics develops programmable, long-acting mRNA therapeutics that aim to treat cancer and other life-threatening diseases. The product works by delivering mRNA engineered with logic-based circuits that sense disease-specific cell signals and activate only in diseased cells, increasing the therapeutic window and reducing harm to healthy cells. This enables multi-functional treatments with targeted action rather than non-specific delivery. The company differentiates itself by its programmable mRNA platform that combines gene-encoded logic with disease targeting to achieve cell-type–restricted activity, potentially allowing for safer and more precise therapies compared with conventional mRNA approaches. Strand Therapeutics pursues collaboration and partnerships to expand its programs and generate revenue through development and commercialization of its proprietary mRNA therapeutics with healthcare providers and institutions.

What believers are saying

  • August 2025 Series B raised $153 million from Kinnevik, Regeneron, Amgen, and Lilly.
  • April 2026 hired Kunal Bhatia as CFO to accelerate capital formation and partnerships.
  • STX-003 is slated for mid-2026 clinic entry after 2025 ASCO validation.

What critics are saying

  • STX-001 remains early Phase 1/2, with only 22 patients enrolled by April 2025.
  • Programmatic mRNA delivery still faces off-target expression and repeat-dosing risks.
  • If STX-003 or in vivo CAR-T miss human efficacy, Strand loses its platform thesis.

What makes Strand Therapeutics unique

  • Strand's EverScript circRNA and LNP logic circuits target diseased cells, not healthy tissue.
  • STX-001 produced a confirmed complete response in 2025 advanced solid tumors.
  • ASGCT 2026 data showed in vivo CAR-T generation in nonhuman primates.

Strand Therapeutics names Kunal Bhatia CFO following $153M Series B

Strand Therapeutics has appointed Kunal Bhatia as Chief Financial Officer to lead corporate strategy and capital formation as the Boston-based biotech scales its programmable mRNA platform. Bhatia will oversee finances, capital raising and strategic partnerships, reporting to CEO Jake Becraft. Bhatia brings approximately 15 years of investment banking experience, having worked on fundraising, business development and mergers and acquisitions for over 100 biopharmaceutical companies. He previously served as interim CFO and Chief Business Officer for private life sciences firms and was a Managing Director at Cowen's Healthcare Investment Banking Group. The appointment follows a $153 million Series B round led by Kinnevik, with participation from Regeneron Ventures, Amgen Ventures and Eli Lilly. Strand is advancing its lead candidate STX-001 in advanced solid tumours.
