Requirements
  • Graduate of an approved school of nursing.
  • Meet all mandatory, developmental, and performance competency requirements for Baptist Health, Orlando Health, and the assigned unit or department.
  • Maintain a current State of Alabama registered nurse license or valid eNLC multistate registered nurse license.
  • Maintain current BLS/Healthcare Provider certification.
  • ACLS, NRP, PALS, or TNCC certification is required for certain areas; NRP is required for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
Responsibilities
  • Administer patient care in a hospital or inpatient/observation setting where acute care patients receive active treatment for injury, illness, medical conditions, or post-intervention needs.
  • Assess patient needs and develop or revise individualized plans of care based on patient needs and responses; evaluate progress toward expected outcomes.
  • Build respectful relationships with team members and customers, respecting diversity.
  • Advocate for patients and families.
  • Provide care appropriate to the ages of patients served in the assigned unit or department.
  • Serve as a preceptor, charge nurse, unit educator, and/or nurse clinician.
  • Communicate and collaborate with medical staff and the interdisciplinary team to plan and manage the unit or department effectively.
  • Model professional conduct and support hospital and nursing department goals and strategies.
  • Apply knowledge of growth and development across the lifespan, assess patient status, and interpret information to identify age-specific care needs.
  • Coordinate care and delegate appropriately for an assigned group of patients.
  • Document patient assessments, education, medication administration, treatments, and safety measures consistently and in accordance with regulatory standards.
  • Demonstrate competency in nursing skills and use of patient care and unit equipment as required by the unit or department.
  • Prioritize care continuously in accordance with evidence-based practice standards.
  • Identify and resolve problems effectively.
  • Delegate tasks to healthcare team members according to patient needs and team members’ capabilities and qualifications.
  • Communicate relevant information about patient conditions and unit concerns to healthcare team members.
  • Provide a compassionate and therapeutic environment for patients and families.
  • Maintain awareness of legal issues and patient rights.
  • Collaborate with the education department and nursing leadership to transition and support new team members and students.
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance in accordance with applicable organizational policies and legal standards.
  • Comply with Baptist Health and Orlando Health policies and procedures.
  • Contribute to colleagues’ knowledge and skills and to continuous improvement in healthcare quality and organizational outcomes.
  • Participate in, and potentially lead, unit-level or organizational nursing practice and performance-improvement committees.
  • Participate in peer review, mentoring, and coaching related to professional practice or role performance.
  • Use supplies efficiently and maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area.
  • Attend staff development in-services, department meetings, and/or nursing committee meetings.
  • Partner with nursing leadership to identify professional development needs.
  • Take responsibility for personal professional development and continuing education.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
