Requirements
  • Experience with large-scale pre-training involving video, multimodal, image, or language data.
  • Experience with self-supervised, goal-conditioned, or unsupervised reinforcement learning.
  • Experience with robotics models, especially models trained on large-scale data.
  • Experience with video generation or other large-scale sequence modeling over high-dimensional observations such as pixels.
  • Experience training models on large GPU clusters and working with Kubernetes.
  • Ability to develop and accurately measure simple, expressive metrics.
  • Commitment to scientific integrity and understanding the true effects of different interventions.
Responsibilities
  • Scale simple methods across large datasets spanning video games, real-world video, and robots.
  • Train general models that learn from and act in the real world.
  • Conduct research involving large-scale model training, experimentation, and evaluation.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with JAX.
  • Interest in adjacent research problems, including new modalities, alternatives to text for reasoning, pixel-space modeling, or automating research itself.
  • A strong background in proof-based mathematics, including measure-theoretic probability, stochastic processes, and optimization theory.
  • Published work, laboratory experience, strong open-source contributions, or personal projects.

What believers are saying

  • July 2026 research gives Pantograph a visible technical artifact and recruiting signal.
  • Pantograph is actively hiring, suggesting the team is still expanding in San Francisco.
  • The PBC positioning and mission narrative help attract mission-driven robotics researchers.

What critics are saying

  • Pantograph has no disclosed funding, making runway and hiring fragile in 2026.
  • OpenAI, Google DeepMind, and Figure can outspend Pantograph on robotics talent and data.
  • If the first model stalls beyond Minecraft, Pantograph becomes a research blog, not a company.

What makes Pantograph unique

  • Pantograph is a San Francisco PBC building unsupervised real-world data gathering for robotics.
  • Its July 2026 research shows a goal-conditioned Minecraft model pretrained on internet-scale video.
  • It pursues simple, scalable methods across lots of robots, not single-task hardware demos.
