About the Job

Requirements

  • Significant experience in procurement, strategic sourcing, supply chain management, or technical purchasing, ideally in a complex engineering, hardware, deep-tech, industrial technology, or advanced manufacturing environment.
  • Experience building or significantly improving procurement processes and supplier management practices, ideally in a growing organization where structure and systems are evolving.
  • Ability to manage technically complex sourcing activities, work with engineers to understand requirements, and translate technical needs into commercial and supplier strategies.
  • A strong track record negotiating supplier agreements, pricing, delivery terms, and commercial contracts, including managing high-value and strategically important supplier relationships.
  • Understanding of how to balance cost, quality, lead time, technical risk, and long-term supplier reliability in sourcing decisions.
  • Experience developing supplier qualification frameworks, evaluating supplier performance, and proactively managing supply-chain risks and constraints.
  • Ability to establish practical, scalable workflows without unnecessary bureaucracy.
  • Ability to operate independently, bring structure to ambiguous situations, make sound decisions, and involve stakeholders or escalate when appropriate.
  • Ability to partner cross-functionally, communicate proactively, build trust with technical and non-technical stakeholders, and influence decisions without formal authority.
  • Comfort operating as a hands-on individual contributor while thinking strategically about future capabilities, processes, and team structure.
  • Motivation to build a function, develop future team members, and grow into broader leadership responsibility as the organization scales.
  • Confident English communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Establish the Procurement & Supply Chain function's strategy, processes, tools, and operating standards across SourceLight product and engineering teams.
  • Identify, evaluate, qualify, and manage suppliers across specialized technical categories, particularly high-value optical, laser, mechanical, electrical, and other advanced hardware components.
  • Lead supplier selection, requests for quotations, commercial negotiations, pricing discussions, lead-time agreements, and framework contracts, balancing cost, quality, technical requirements, and delivery timelines.
  • Lead commercial negotiations for strategic supplier agreements and Joint Development Agreements, partnering with Engineering, Legal, Finance, and leadership on commercial, operational, and contractual outcomes.
  • Own procurement from request through purchase order and supplier follow-up to enable engineering and product teams to focus on engineering, integration, testing, and product development.
  • Implement standardized purchasing workflows, supplier documentation, approval processes, contract-management practices, and procurement systems that support transparency, efficiency, and accountability.
  • Monitor supplier capacity, component availability, lead times, delivery performance, and potential supply disruptions; develop mitigation strategies for critical components and communicate risks to stakeholders.
  • Coordinate purchase-order approvals, budget alignment, payment processes, contract reviews, and compliance requirements with Finance and Legal, maintaining clear decision-making and escalation pathways.
  • Establish supplier qualification and performance standards addressing technical specifications, quality requirements, cleanroom and safety considerations, and applicable regulatory or industry requirements.
  • Develop reporting on procurement status, supplier performance, purchasing cycle times, cost savings, delivery risks, and sourcing priorities to support operational decisions.
  • Identify future capability and resourcing needs, contribute to hiring plans, and establish processes and knowledge resources to develop and lead a growing Procurement & Supply Chain team.

Desired Qualifications

  • German language skills.

About the Company

Focused

Laser-driven inertial confinement fusion for power

Focused Energy uses laser-driven inertial confinement fusion to produce commercial fusion power by directing high-powered, precisely timed laser pulses at tiny fuel pellets to compress them into fusion conditions and generate carbon-free electricity. Its approach centers on advanced laser systems, fuel optimization, and integrated prototypes to scale toward power plants, working with scientific and industrial partners across plasma physics and engineering. The company differentiates itself by pursuing a practical path to commercialization through plant-ready laser and system designs rather than purely theoretical research. Its goal is to deliver safe, abundant, and carbon-free electricity in the global energy mix within the coming decades.
