About the job

Requirements
  • At least five years of experience delivering design solutions as a UX designer or interaction designer.
  • Experience acquiring user data, including conducting usability studies or performing user research, and creating personas and journey maps.
  • Experience leading design projects from concept through execution, including user flows, wireframes, prototypes, and customer experience specifications.
  • Proficiency with current accessibility standards.
  • An online portfolio demonstrating design craft, problem-solving process, and shipped work.
  • Proficiency in Figma for high-fidelity design and interactive prototyping, and familiarity with AI-assisted prototyping or coding tools to accelerate concept exploration and prototype development.
Responsibilities
  • Deliver end-to-end design solutions for difficult hiring workflows, from research synthesis through interactive prototypes, presenting multiple solutions and clearly representing the benefits and trade-offs of each approach.
  • Partner with engineering and product management to execute and deliver products and services using a customer-focused, iterative design process, incorporating technology-stack capabilities and constraints into design solutions.
  • Design AI-assisted high-volume hiring experiences that make system actions legible, communicate confidence and uncertainty honestly, provide clear paths for action or override, and address edge cases, low-confidence states, and failure modes.
  • Determine UX solutions based on customer feedback and business goals, and synthesize qualitative and quantitative data to inform feature- and product-level design decisions.
  • Communicate design strategy, outcomes, and deliverables to partners and stakeholders; present and critique work in cross-team reviews to improve work and share knowledge.
  • Improve design patterns, standards, methods, and processes; extend established UX techniques, templates, and assets; propose new solutions or optimize existing ones; and promote reuse and consistency of UX artifacts across team members and projects.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience designing AI-assisted product surfaces that present ranked outputs, confidence signals, generated content, or automated actions, while communicating uncertainty clearly without eroding trust.
  • Experience designing high-volume or transactional workflows where error states, partial completion, recovery paths, and time-sensitive actions are first-class design requirements.
  • Experience designing for users with a wide range of digital literacy, including mobile-first experiences for non-technical or frontline users.
  • Familiarity with design systems, including using shared component libraries, identifying gaps, and contributing improvements rather than working around them.
  • Prior work in HR technology, consumer products at scale, retail, logistics, or another domain where both volume and the human cost of poor experience are high.

About the company

Amazon runs the largest online store in the United States and rents cloud computing to businesses and governments through Amazon Web Services. AWS pioneered renting computing power over the internet, and Amazon built its own delivery network to get orders to customers quickly. Shoppers buy from Amazon and from independent sellers on its store, and Prime members pay a subscription for fast free shipping, streaming video and music, and other perks. AWS rents out computing power, storage, databases, and AI tools so companies can run software without owning servers, and Amazon also makes Kindle e-readers and Echo speakers with the Alexa assistant. Jeff Bezos founded Amazon in 1994, and it is based in Seattle, Washington.

What believers are saying

  • AI drives growth: AWS's AI and custom-chip sales each more than doubled, passing $25 billion a year by June 2026.
  • Stock grants gained value: shares hit a record in August 2026, making Amazon the fifth company to reach $3 trillion.
  • Ads are a third engine beside stores and AWS: they grew 26% to $19.8 billion in the June 2026 quarter.

What critics are saying

  • AWS's lead is shrinking: in the June 2026 quarter, Google Cloud grew 82% and Microsoft's Azure 43%, versus AWS's 37%.
  • Job security has slipped: Amazon cut 30,000 corporate jobs in October 2025 and January 2026 to reduce management layers.
  • Expect five office days a week: Amazon ended its three-day hybrid policy for corporate staff in January 2025.

What makes Amazon unique

  • Most of Amazon's profit comes from cloud: AWS made 21% of sales but 60% of operating profit in mid-2026.
  • Amazon is America's biggest parcel carrier by volume: it handled 6.9 billion packages in 2025, more than the Postal Service.
  • Writing matters more than slides: Amazon meetings open with silent reading of a six-page memo instead of PowerPoint.

Amazon backs 960MW Indiana nuclear plant with 12 X-energy reactors on former coal site

Amazon will fund a proposed 960-megawatt nuclear plant in Indiana and be the first customer to buy its power, the companies announced Monday. American Electric Power (AEP) would operate the plant, and X-energy, a designer of small modular nuclear reactors, would supply 12 Xe-100 reactors. The plant would sit on the site of a demolished coal plant just south of Terre Haute. It would connect to the public grid, though Amazon says the power would also serve its data centres. The deal is the second between Amazon and X-energy, and three times larger than the first. Amazon led a $700 million Series C-1 round in X-energy in October 2024. The companies plan 5 gigawatts of new US nuclear capacity by 2039. The timeline depends on X-energy delivering its first plant, at Seadrift in Texas, where it has yet to break ground.

Amazon's $220B AI build-out turns free cash flow negative as power and delivery delays bite

Amazon's AI data centre buildout has pushed the company into negative free cash flow, according to a recording of a September staff meeting obtained by Business Insider. Amazon is spending $220 billion this year on AI infrastructure. Prasad Kalyanaraman, who oversees much of that expansion, said he expects free cash flow to stay negative for "the next couple of years or so." Delays in power, equipment, or construction can leave billions of dollars of hardware idle. Under a new "Early Rack Receipt" process, Amazon takes ownership of server racks earlier, spending cash sooner. Amazon says AWS revenue grew 37% last quarter, and its backlog reached $496 billion. Chief executive Andy Jassy sees a "clear line of sight" to strong returns.
