Requirements
  • Practice of the Catholic faith is required, with public conduct consistent with the mission, faith, morals, and policies of the Church and diocese.
  • Three to five years of experience in parish or church music ministry is required.
  • Training in choral conducting, keyboard, including organ and/or piano, and vocal leadership is required.
  • Experience in liturgical music reflecting a variety of musical styles and traditions is required.
  • Knowledge of and ability to work within Church policies, procedures, and applicable federal and state regulations is required.
  • Ability to recruit, develop, and support volunteer music ministers and lay leaders is required.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with clergy, staff, and volunteers is required.
  • The position requires a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and liturgical seasons as needed.
  • The position requires the ability to stand for extended periods, conduct rehearsals and performances, use standard office equipment and computer systems, communicate effectively verbally and in writing, and perform light physical work involving objects and materials up to 10 pounds.
Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with the Pastor and parish staff to integrate music ministry within the overall parish mission and liturgical life.
  • Coordinate the parish music program and select and plan music with the Pastor and Liturgy Committee for parish liturgies, including Sundays and Holy Days.
  • Collaborate with the Liturgy Committee and parish staff, including Faith Formation, Youth Ministry, and OCIA, to coordinate appropriate music for sacramental celebrations and provide guidance and support as needed.
  • Conduct regular youth and adult choir rehearsals and prepare music for liturgical celebrations.
  • Recruit, develop, and support choir members, cantors, and other music ministers.
  • Stay current with developments in liturgy and music and connect music ministers with training and formation opportunities.
  • Foster unity among parish musicians and promote collaboration with clergy and other liturgical ministers.
  • Assist with the preparation and monitoring of the music ministry budget.
  • Promote effective communication and positive relationships within the parish and broader community.
  • Recruit and schedule qualified cantors, accompanists, and instrumentalists.
  • Provide music for weddings, funerals, and other liturgies as requested by the Pastor.
  • Perform administrative and computer-based work and meet the physical requirements of the position, including sitting, standing, reaching, grasping, fine motor tasks, and light lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling.
Desired Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Music or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, is preferred.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills are preferred.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional and personal development in music and liturgical ministry is preferred.
