Requirements
  • CWI certification or NACE certification. ASNT Level II in VT/PT/UTT is preferred
  • Must have extensive knowledge of multiple types of welding processes, and the materials used for each process
  • Must be a team player and have effective communication skill in dealing with co-workers, direct reports and any other work-related contacts
  • Must have basic knowledge of the construction processes involved in heavy industrial construction
  • Must be able to use problem solving skills and critical thinking to resolve and identify issues, including safety risks
  • Must be willing to follow all company directives and safety procedures
  • Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) is required
  • Other preferred certifications: current CWI, CIP, ACI, NACE, and/or API certification(s); ASNT Level II in VT, PT, and UTT (preferred)
Responsibilities
  • Oversee and verify tests, samples, and inspection of raw, fabricated, and machined materials, assembled structures, and industrial processes for quality, deviations, or defects according to specifications
  • Inspect welds and welding processes
  • Supervise the Quality team and provide documented training including On-The-Job training and administer examinations for QC Inspectors
  • Maintain training, qualification, and certification records for QC Inspectors
  • Work with corporate to maintain Quality Manual to meet applicable ASME Code requirements
  • Prepare Training Outlines on Quality Manual revisions and applicable QA/QC subjects for all departments
  • Prepare QC Checklists for each job that list the specific QC/NDE requirements required for the job
  • Control the distribution, disposition, and follow-up of internal NCRs including maintenance of the NCR Log and preparation of Corrective/Preventive Action Requests when applicable
  • Investigate Client Non-Conformance reports for cause and provide information to the Project Manager
  • Maintain the Corrective/Preventative Action Request program for internal quality problems
  • Prepare for and supervise the annual quality reviews for the quality program
  • Prepare for and supervise Client audits of the Quality Program
  • Maintain and control the distribution of the Shop Procedure Manual
  • Perform RT film interpretation as required
  • Review Filler Metal Mill Test Reports for Code and Contract compliance as applicable
  • Maintain and control the distribution of the Welding Procedure Specifications used in the facility
  • Supervise Welder Performance Qualification weld tests
  • Document and maintain all Welder’s Performance Qualification Records and provide copies to ZII San Antonio
  • Update, maintain, and distribute the welder qualification summary monthly
  • Maintain weld reject percentage report and input the data into the corporate report
  • Provide Management with an information on all welders with a weld reject rate >5%
  • Provide ZII San Antonio with a PQR/WPS Request for the development and preparation all new Welding Procedure Specifications required by Contract and the implementation for the use of improved welding equipment, consumables, or techniques
  • Supervise welding procedure qualification weld tests
  • Assist the Shop Management Team in resolving production welding problems
  • Initiate and supervise the welding of test coupons, and arrange for the testing of welding consumables when required
  • Prepare Filler Metal Application Lists for each job that requires non-standard filler metal test reports.
  • Interface with all customer representatives, inspectors, 3rd party and ZII Quality personnel
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Current Zachry or Zachry ROF’ed employee.
  • Former experience working with Zachry Industrial, Inc.
  • Experience working as a welder on industrial construction projects.

Zachry Group awarded Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contract for NiSource's Combined Cycle Generation Project. SAN ANTONIO-(BUSINESS WIRE)-Zachry Group (Zachry) has been awarded the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contract for NiSource Inc.'s Combined Cycle Generation Project, a major infrastructure project located near Wheatfield, Indiana. The facility will support NiSource's delivery of electricity to a third-party customer and includes two nominal 1,300-megawatt gas-fired combined cycle units in a 2 x 2 x 1 configuration. A subsidiary of NiSource Inc. will own and operate the facility. The EPC contract will be executed by a joint venture between Zachry Group and Quanta Services, Inc. (Quanta). Zachry will lead engineering, procurement, project management, construction planning, and commissioning, drawing on its five decades of experience designing and building over 100 gas-fired facilities totaling more than 60,000 megawatts. Quanta will contribute field-level leadership and craft workforce management through its operating companies.
