Requirements
  • Possess, at minimum, a nursing degree from an accredited college or university, or graduate from an approved Licensed Practical Nurse/Licensed Vocational Nurse program.
  • Possess a current, unencumbered, active license to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse/Licensed Vocational Nurse in this state.
  • Read, write, speak, and understand English, including technical procedures and policy and procedure manuals.
  • Apply fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age-related needs of residents.
  • Make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
  • Deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies, and the general public.
  • Be knowledgeable of nursing and medical practices and procedures and the laws, regulations, and guidelines applicable to nursing care facilities.
  • Possess leadership and supervisory ability and be willing to supervise other personnel.
  • Plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret programs, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures necessary to provide quality care.
  • Possess a current CPR certification.
  • Maintain required continuing education and licensing and remain in good standing with the State Board of Nursing.
  • Meet the facility’s general health requirements, including a medical and physical examination.
  • Move, push, pull, and/or carry at least 25 pounds to a minimum height of 5 feet and a minimum distance of 50 feet.
  • Assist in evacuating residents during emergency situations when necessary.
Responsibilities
  • Provide direct nursing care to residents and supervise the day-to-day nursing activities performed by nursing assistants.
  • Direct the day-to-day functions of nursing assistants and ensure that assigned nursing personnel comply with facility policies, procedures, job descriptions, and applicable regulations.
  • Review nursing policies, procedure manuals, and job descriptions and recommend revisions.
  • Plan shift services, programs, and activities with assigned nursing and support personnel.
  • Prepare written and oral reports and recommendations concerning shift activities.
  • Coordinate nursing services with other resident services to maintain each resident’s total care regimen.
  • Participate in the nursing department quality assurance program and facility surveys conducted by authorized government agencies.
  • Review and update resident discharge plans and assist with planning nursing services for discharge.
  • Admit, transfer, and discharge residents and complete associated records and forms.
  • Complete administrative documents, reports, evaluations, studies, charting, census reports, and charge slips.
  • Protect user credentials and residents’ protected health information and report suspected unauthorized access or disclosures.
  • Complete and file admission, transfer, discharge, accident, incident, and other required medical-record documentation.
  • Receive and transcribe physician orders, maintain nurses’ notes, record diet changes, and report discrepancies.
  • Prepare and administer physician-ordered medications and treatments, verify resident identity, maintain medication supplies, and reconcile narcotic records.
  • Order prescribed medications, supplies, and equipment and dispose of drugs and narcotics according to established procedures.
  • Participate in employee performance evaluations, determine shift staffing requirements, and recommend personnel dismissals or transfers to the Nurse Supervisor.
  • Report staffing shortages and absentee call-ins, develop work assignments, and provide leadership to nursing personnel.
  • Make daily rounds to ensure personnel perform assignments according to nursing standards and report problem areas.
  • Ensure nursing assistants and nurse aide trainees meet training and supervision requirements.
  • Conduct shift nursing reports, identify and address problem areas, and maintain effective communication with personnel, residents, visitors, and other departments.
  • Inform nursing personnel about new admissions, prepare rooms, greet and orient residents and families, and coordinate admissions.
  • Make physician rounds, arrange ordered diagnostic and therapeutic services, consult with physicians, and review resident charts for treatments, medications, diets, and care plans.
  • Implement nursing objectives and standards and verify that prescribed treatments are administered appropriately.
  • Provide or oversee catheterization, tube feedings, suctioning, dressing and bandage changes, colostomy and drainage-bag care, specimen collection, vital-sign measurement, restorative programs, and range-of-motion exercises.
  • Monitor seriously ill residents, notify physicians and next of kin of accidents or changes in condition, and coordinate resident and family meetings.
  • Inspect treatment areas, maintain clean and safe nursing areas, and ensure compliance with safety, hand hygiene, infection control, isolation, and personal protective equipment procedures.
  • Maintain adequate medication, medical supply, and equipment stock; ensure safe equipment operation by trained personnel; and prevent supply waste.
  • Review resident care plans, identify needed revisions, ensure care-plan compliance, and assist with Minimum Data Set assessments and related care-plan processes.
  • Participate in developing and conducting in-service training, employee orientation, clinical supervision, continuing education, and annual facility training programs.
  • Report suspected fraud, hazardous conditions, occupational exposures, and other safety or compliance incidents.
  • Provide requested data to the Quality Assurance and Assessment Committee.
  • Work in nursing service areas, communicate with medical and nursing staff, attend continuing education, and respond to emergency call-back requirements.

PACS Group acquires Alaska care facility, plans 150-bed skilled nursing centre by 2028

PACS Group has appointed Carey P. Hendrickson as chief financial officer, effective 27 April 2026. Hendrickson brings nearly four decades of financial leadership across healthcare, senior living and media sectors. Most recently, Hendrickson served as CFO of U.S. Physical Therapy, overseeing 779 outpatient clinics across 44 states. PACS Group has announced that co-founder and chief financial officer Mark Hancock will retire on 30 June 2026. He will continue serving on the company's board of directors as vice chairman. Hancock co-founded PACS in 2013 with Jason Murray, starting with two post-acute care facilities in San Diego. Dr Conway currently serves as CEO of Optum, UnitedHealth Group's health services division with revenues exceeding $200 billion.
