Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Four to six years of prior claims-handling experience is required.
  • Working knowledge of claims administration best practices and procedures.
  • Moderate knowledge of insurance, fault assessment, negligence, and subrogation principles is required.
  • Comprehensive understanding of vehicle and building repair procedures and third-party liability issues.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, general computer software, and claims software.
  • A valid driver's license, acceptable Department of Motor Vehicles record, and minimum liability insurance issued by a state are required.
  • An insurance or claims adjuster license may be required for claims administration in specific states.
Responsibilities
  • Handle moderate to complex homeowner property insurance claims in compliance with regulatory and statutory requirements.
  • Identify and obtain statements from insureds, vendors, and witnesses; conduct phone and/or field investigations to determine coverage and damages and distinguish allegations from facts.
  • Explain benefits, coverages, and the claims process verbally or in writing, comply with regulatory and statutory requirements, and recognize and address moderately complex coverage issues.
  • Evaluate and determine claim values after receiving and assessing property damage data.
  • Negotiate within settlement authority with insureds to resolve first claims.
  • Update database production reports and document and update claim files using company systems, including CACS, HUON, HOC, and Guidewire.
  • Control expenses within areas of responsibility.
  • Verify and interpret or resolve coverage by gathering information to ensure policy applicability; objectively identify and address issues that may be questioned in an audit; coordinate with internal and external departments as required.
  • Attend and participate in legal proceedings as needed.
  • Respond quickly and effectively to customer needs and problems.
  • Travel locally, potentially using a company car, to inspect accident scenes or first-party homeowner losses.
Desired Qualifications
  • Four to six years of property claims administration experience is preferred.
  • One to three years of experience in the construction industry is preferred.
